My Latest Pull List – May 28th, 2014

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

I’d thought this was going to be a light week based on my Marvel books, but the final number for my list is eight new books.

  • AVENGERS #30 – Even with a long weekend, I only managed to get through Original Sin #2 and still need to read Avengers #29 before I can get to this.
  • BATMAN ETERNAL #8 – A weekly title might just be too much for me. If DC paired digital copies with all of their books there’s no way I’d be behind on this book.
  • BATMAN #31 – Always happy to see this on my list. Zero Year has been running for a long time and I’m still enjoying every issue.
  • GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #15 – Last issue was interesting. Not sure how I feel about the inlusion of Venom, but the first issue following The Trial of Jean Grey was enough to keep me on board.
  • HALO ESCALATION #6 – Waiting to read this series in its entirety.
  • SERENITY LEAVES ON THE WIND #5 – Waiting to read this series in its entirety.
  • THANOS ANNUAL #1 – This will be a call in the store.
  • UNCANNY AVENGERS #20 – I’m enjoying this arc (didn’t care for the annual a few weeks ago apart from the Art Adams cover). My only concern is that the book feels more and more out of touch with the Marvel Universe. That may all be changing with the announcement of the Remender’s upcoming AXIS event.

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and I regularly post what I’ll be picking up each Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

I always knew this day would come… eleven new books on my list, only five that I’m up-to-date on.

  • ALL-NEW FACTOR #8 – No comment.
  • AMAZING X-MEN #7 – Firestar joining the X-Men was a huge part of this title’s appeal, but the real payoff is in this issue. Spider-Man guest stars alongside his amazing friends, Bobby Drake and Angelica Jones.
  • BATMAN ETERNAL #7 – No comment.
  • FOREVER EVIL #7 – OK. It has been a long time.
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE #30 – No comment.
  • MAGNETO #4 – No comment.
  • ORIGINAL SIN #2 – I’m into this event so far. Looking forward to pairing this with last week’s Avengers #29.
  • SAGA #19 – Excited to see this return.
  • UNCANNY X-MEN #21 – All of Bendis’ X-Men work has been great. This will be the first book I read this week.
  • WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #4 – No comment.
  • X-MEN #14 – No comment.

My Latest Pull List – May 14th, 2014

Seven new books on my list this week. Looks like I won’t be picking them up until Thursday though. Vivre de Belgique – ptb

  • ALL-NEW X-MEN #27 – Without question my favorite Marvel title right now. I had the return of the villains on the cover spoiled for me months ago, but I was so caught up in the events of issue #26 that their appearance on the final pages still took me a bit by surprise.
  • AVENGERS #29 – An Original Sin tie-in. I’ve fallen behind on this and New Avengers but I managed to make up some ground last night. I’m honestly looking forward to how the series will tie into Marvel’s big Summer event, but not as much as I’m enjoying the fact that I just found what appears to be an episode of a Silver Surfer cartoon on live tv – features Zenn-La, the Kree, Skrulls, Galactus, and the Watcher.
  • BATMAN ETERNAL #6 – My available reading time is not conducive to the weekly shipping schedule of this series. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far, but there’s so much more to read.
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL #3 – I like where this relaunch is headed. Still need to read issue #2, but the cosmic adventures of Carol Danvers in space works for me.
  • NEW AVENGERS #18 – Nearly caught up on this, but issue #17 advised me to read Avengers #28 before continuing. I should be caught up by the time I get my books this week.
  • NIGHTCRAWLER #2 – Not at all sure I’ll continue with this series, but the cover was enough to keep it on my list this week.
  • X-FORCE #5 – I go back and forth with how I’m feeling about this series. The pairing of Cable and Psylocke has a lot of appeal, but the absence of Hope and the series’ mission so far puts it at minus 2. Going to keep giving it a chance.

Eight new books on my list this week.

  • ALL-NEW X-FACTOR #7 – Can’t believe how many issue of this series have shipped since this debuted earlier this year. I’m hoping that it will settle into a monthly schedule soon.
  • BATMAN ETERNAL #5 – Another week, another issue. It’s challenge finding reading time to keep up but I love that there’s more every Wednesday.
  • CYCLOPS #1 – Officially, I don’t think this book needs to exist, but I will buy it, read it, and probably love it. Greg Rucka is writing this new series featuring the space-faring adventures of the time-displaced Scott Summers from the pages of Brian Bendis’ All-New X-Men. While I haven’t followed much of Rucka’s other work, his current Image Comics series Lazarus has become one of the titles I anticipate most each month.
  • MAGNETO #3 – I blame the Marvel Now double shipping schedule for falling behind on some of the books I follow, but I fell behind on this and Moon Knight as well and they’re as monthly as can be.
  • MOOK KNIGHT #3 – See above.
  • NEW 52 FUTURES END #1 – This looks interesting enough to check out the first issue. Batman Beyond in the regular DC Universe has a lot to do with that. The fact that this is a second long-term weekly book DC is asking fans to commit to does not bode well for it staying on my list.
  • ORIGINAL SIN #1 – I’m intrigued here. The zero issue was a nice setup and I’m looking forward to Marvel’s latest Summer event series. The promotional rubber Watcher eyeballs were an odd touch, particularly the energy crackling around the iris and pupil all of which the Watcher lacks.
  • X-MEN: NO MORE HUMANS – The latest in Marvel’s new line of original graphic novels (distinct from a collection of monthly releases) is arguably the book I’m most looking forward to this week. I’m a huge fan of Mike Carey’s X-Men work and I’m honestly thrilled to see more of it.
