My Latest Pull List – November 7th, 2012

Posted by under *like, Comics |

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

This week’s Pull List comes a bit delayed post due to a massive Halo 4 binge after the game’s midnight release. I like to think the universe was a little safer on Tuesday.

  • AVENGERS #43 – I’m really enjoying Brian Bendis’ End Times story in this title (not so much in his New Avengers title). As the writer transitions from the Avengers franchise to my beloved X-Men, I’m glad to see a big story featuring classic Avengers wrap things up.
  • AvX CONSEQUENCES #5 – This follow up to Avengers vs. X-Men was a home run and really puts a cap on Kieron Gillen’s Uncanny X-Men. It could have easily been published as the last few issues of Uncanny Vol 2. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Gillen’s time on the book, and this sets what’s left of the “Extinction Team” onto their new course as part of Marvel Now. I’m particularly happy with where Hope is headed, and I was afraid  Marvel might have her disappear after AvX.
  • DEADPOOL #1Marvel Now began in earnest this week with this new series and Iron Man #1, and just gets bigger next Wednesday with five series debuting. The “refresh” of the Marvel publishing line might have lost some momentum after the big debut of Uncanny Avengers #1 a month ago, but these are the titles to focus on given the growing delays that book is seeing. Comedian/writer Brian Posehn is a real draw here, but I also picked up a Chris Bachalo variant cover of the first issue featuring some of my favorite dead Presidents.
  • IRON MAN #1 – It’s admittedly odd picking up the first issue of a book with near absolute certainty I won’t be back for issue two. Iron Man not one of my favorites and Greg Land isn’t a draw for me, but writer Kieron Gillen is. I have to at least see what he has in mind for this series.
  • THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS #7 – This one has been away for a while and I’m thrilled to see it back. It has lost a spot at the top of my reading list while it was delayed, but I expect a full recovery.
  • NEW AVENGERS #32 – A strong sign that I’m just not into this book is that I find myself with essentially nothing to say about it. I’ll see it through to the finish with only three issues to go.
  • UNCANNY X-FORCE #33 – My interest in this series has been all over the place in recent months, but this will be among the first books I read in a big week of releases.
  • X-FACTOR #246 – The preview promises a palette cleansing stand alone focused on Pip the Troll following the tremendous Breaking Points arc. I’m not terribly invested in Pip, but I trust Peter David to show me why I should be. I’m also looking forward the build to issue #250.
  • X-MEN #38 – I’m hopelessly far behind on this title. I’m not sure what its fate will be in Marvel Now but I dont see myself catching up any time soon.

Check back every week to see what’s on My Latest Pull List and please share your thoughts on these titles and everything you’re reading this week in the comments.
