My Latest Pull List – October 16th, 2013

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Six new books on my list this week. All Marvel titles this time around with a lot of cosmic and mutant happenings.

  • AVENGERS #21 – An Infinity tie-in. It’s Infinity times two this week with Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers and New Avengers both shipping. I’m definitely looking forward to reading New Avengers more, but Lenil Yu’s cover to this issue is pretty amazing.
  • CABLE AND X-FORCE #15 – I want this book to be a lot better than it is. Hopefully the cover isn’t a fake out and we’ll get some real interaction between Hope and Cable.
  • GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #7 – I still haven’t read issue #6, but I’m on board with this one for the foreseeable future.
  • NEW AVENGERS #11 – An Infinity tie-in. I’m way into everything that’s happening in this book right now: Marvel’s Illuminati, Thanos and his Black Order, the Builders, and infinite invading Earths.
  • UNCANNY X-MEN #13 – A Battle of the Atom tie-in. There hasn’t been a chapter of this crossover that’s disappointed so far. Chris Bachalo’s art was fantastic last issue and I expect the same here.
  • X-MEN: LEGACY #18 – I really need to catch up on this title.

My Latest Pull List – October 9th, 2013

Six new books on my list this week. Not sure how much time there will be for reading with New York Comic Con starting on Thursday.

  • ASTONISHING X-MEN #68 – I’m not exactly sad to see this series go even though Marjorie Liu has earned a lot of acclaim for her work on the title. I think Astonishing never really recaptured my attention after the shipping delays/cancellation it went though around thirty issues ago.
  • BATMAN #24 – I’m a big fan of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman, but I didn’t realize I would miss it so much during DC’s Villains Month. Can’t wait to get back to Zero Year.
  • HALO INITIATION #3 – Dark Horse’s foray into the Halo universe is off to a solid start and I’m curious to see where exactly on the timeline this first miniseries will end.
  • INFINITY #4 – I haven’t had to wait for this to return to shelves as long as Batman, but last week felt a bit strange without any Infinity books on my list.
  • UNCANNY X-FORCE #12 – Spiral was a big part of what drew me to this series and I’m glad to see an issue focusing specifically on her. Ramon Perez’s interiors look really interesting and the Kris Anka cover looks great.
  • X-MEN #6 – A Battle of the Atom tie-in. This whole crossover has been a huge hit for me, and getting an installment every week is a huge plus. I recently saw Battle of the Atom described on Comic Book Resources as “the perfect X-Men 50th Anniversary story: dozens of different X-Men time-travelling and obsessing over Jean Grey.” I can’t disagree with any of that. It is perfect.

My Latest Pull List – October 2nd, 2013

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Five new books on my list this Wednesday. It’s a relatively small week, but some of my favorite books are shipping and there’s a fairly even publisher distribution.

  • ALL-NEW X-MEN #17 – A Battle of the Atom tie-in. The first half of this crossover hit a lot of high spots for me. I’m really looking forward to where the latest twist is heading as past, present, and future X-Men discover that everything and everyone aren’t quite what they seem. Also, Stuart Immonen’s variant cover for the issue has really caught my eye.
  • ALL-NEW X-MEN SPECIAL #1 – The beginning of a crossover with Indestructible Hulk and Superior Spider-Man. Seeing this on the shipping list took me a bit by surprise but I’ll give it a shot. I couldn’t find any info on the creative team but it would take a lot to turn me away from anything associated with All-New.
  • DOCTOR WHO: PRISONERS OF TIME #9 – I’m watching the BBC America Doctor Who Revisited special dedicated to the Ninth Doctor as I write this, and I have an advance copy of the issue waiting in the wings. I’m hoping to get more on the villain that’s been attacking the various incarnations of the Doctor and his companions here, but an untold adventure with Doctor #9 is welcome in any context.
  • FOREVER EVIL #2 – I wasn’t sure about this series after the first issue, but in a small week I’m willing to go back for more. I didn’t read a lot of DC’s Villains Month but I’ve heard some things about the Secret Society special that I’m hoping to see followed up here.
  • LAZARUS #4 – This is the best new book I’ve read in a long time. It’s toss up if I’ll start my reading with this or the next part of Battle of the Atom.

My Latest Pull List – September 25th, 2013

Six new books on my list this Wednesday.

  • AVENGERS #20 – An Infinity tie-in. I’m thoroughly enjoying all things Infinity. The main series is full of high spots, and the Avengers and New Avengers tie-ins have brought some depth to what the Marvel Universe is going through in its war with the mysterious Builders. The fact that Infinity‘s mastermind, Jonathan Hickman, is writing all of those issues is a big plus. Sticking to the Hickman written chapters is probably best course for me, but I am debating picking up this week’s Avengers Assemble #19 and Nova #8 primarily because of the Infinity logo.
  • BATMAN #23.4 BANE – DC’s Villains Month wraps up for me here. An Batman issue every week was beyond my capacity to keep up. I’ll likely continue with DC’s Forever Evil series that continues over the next six months, but I’m really looking forward to the return of Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, and Zero Year in the pages of Batman, particularly after listening to last week’s Fat Man on Batman podcast.
  • GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #6 – It feels like a lot of time has passed since issue #5 and the continuing introduction of Neil Gaiman’s Angela to the Marvel Universe. I’m not at all sold on the character’s transition from the pages of Image Comics’ Spawn yet, but I’m a fan of the Guardians and I’ll continue to give it a chance.
  • SAGA #14 – Always a great read. After being on hiatus for a few months, I wasn’t crazy about the cliffhanger from issue #12 not being addressed last month but I trust the creative team to provide the right payoff at the right time.
  • UNCANNY AVENGERS #12 – I’m happy this book has gotten onto a regular shipping schedule, and Kang and the Apocalypse Twins are making for a wild story.
  • WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #36 – A Battle of the Atom tie-in. I’m loving the crossover, but I don’t particularly enjoy this series. I caught up on the last 14 issues recently and only about one in four really did anything for me. The preview looks promising though.

I’m also considering checking out IDW’s zombie animal book THE OTHER DEAD #1 this week.
