Wake up, John! Halo 4 announced at E3

Microsoft presented a long list of things to look forward to at their E3 keynote yesterday, but nothing stood out more to me than the announcement of Halo 4. I’m a big fan of the Halo franchise, and it’s great to hear that 343 Studios will not only be producing another installment of the series featuring the Master Chief and Cortana but a new trilogy.  The exciting teaser (see below, I’ve watched it at least a dozen times already) suggests we’re about to learn a lot more about the ancient Forerunners of the Halo universe and many of the hidden datapads in Halo: Reach indicated this might be a new direction for the series.

Halo 4 is not scheduled until Holiday 2012, but in the meantime fans will be getting what looks to be a real treat in November with Halo Anniversary. Celebrating ten years since the release of the Halo: Combat Evolved for the original Xbox, 343 Studios has gone back to the game that started the franchise and retooled all of the graphics, multiplayer features and added some intriguing extras. The video documentary reveals that players will be able to switch between the new and original graphics on the fly but the gameplay is unchanged. Achievements (which were introduced with the Xbox 360) and hidden information terminals have also been added to the game coming November 15, 2011.
