Monday Night Raw Warm Up for April 1st, 2013

A lot of big names gathered in Philadelphia last Monday night as Hall of Famers Mick Foley, Booker T, Dusty Rhodes, Bret Hart and Jerry Lawler asker the Rock and John Cena about what we can expect from their WrestleMania 29 rematch.

A lot of big names gathered in Philadelphia last Monday night as WWE Hall of Famers Mick Foley, Booker T, Dusty Rhodes, Bret Hart and Jerry Lawler asked the Rock and John Cena what we can expect from their WrestleMania 29 rematch.

We’re just six days from WrestleMania 29, and the MLD Monday Night Warm Up is taking a bit of a break this week to prepare. We’ll be back later in the week with a special edition WrestleMania Warm Up, while tonight’s episode of Raw will emanate from Washington, DC. Last Monday’s Raw from Philadelphia was exactly the type of show WWE needed heading into the biggest show of the year. Local sports radio hosts in the City of Brotherly Love may not have understood any of what they were seeing last week, but the fans in attendance did and they approved. It would be great for the last Raw before WWE’s biggest show of the year to get the same high marks. At the very least, tonight is likely to bring the usual rhetoric from Cena and the Rock, more disrespect for the Undertaker from C.M. Punk, and Shawn Michaels returns for what could be the final Raw of Triple H’s career given the stipulations of his match WrestleMania match with Brock Lesnar.

While we get our thoughts together for WrestleMania, enjoy some of the highlights from last week.

My Latest Pull List – March 27th, 2013

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

It’s an absolutely huge Wednesday with eleven new books for me this week.

  • A+X #6 – It looks like the solicit and the cover for this book are out of sync again (at least for the backup story as the listed Mister Sinister/Loki story was published in A+X #5 at the beginning of the month). If this issue indeed features Wolverine and Captain Marvel, I’ll be getting it.
  • AGE OF ULTRON #3 – I’m still not sure about this series, but I doubt that will stop me from seeing it through to the finish. It’s early yet, so the event still holds a lot of promise.
  • AQUAMAN #18 – I’m really on the fence with this series. I fell behind in my reading quite a whole ago and haven’t been able to catch up. If I buy this issue, it will be my last until I’m up to date.
  • ASTONISHING X-MEN #60 – An X-Termination tie in issue but one that would have been on my list regardless. I’m not sure that crossing over with the current line of alternate timeline X-titles helps or hinders my chances of enjoying this.
  • EAST OF WEST #1 – Jonathan Hickman‘s Sci-Fi/Western series featuring the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. That description alone got the first issue on my list, and an advance look at the debut has me in for issue #2.
  • GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #1 – The “Point One” issue of this series was outstanding and I’m very interested to see what Brian Bendis has in store for these characters. It will certainly be different from what Danny Abnett and Andy Lanning were doing in the previous series, and the addition of Iron Man is interesting even if it does suggest some cross-pollenation between Marvel’s print and film universes.
  • PLANETOID #5 – Ken Garing’s digital-turned-print sci-fi comic returns from a brief shipping hiatus for the finale of this first mini-series. Issue #3 was a high point, but what I recall of #4 didn’t thrill me as much. I have high hopes for how this will wrap up and I highly recommend it for fans of tales from the desolate frontiers of outer space.
  • UNCANNY AVENGERS #5 – I’m very excited about the prospects of this series shipping monthly (or at least closer to it). It was honestly the book I was most looking forward to with the Marvel Now relaunch, and I still look forward to seeing more of it. Artist Olvier Coipel drawing the issue is an added bonus. I’m still undecided on his variant cover for this issue featuring Wonder Man and Rogue.
  • UNCANNY X-FORCE #3 – Will we get an explanation of Energy Bear Bishop?
  • WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #27 – Still have a lot of catching up to do on this series.
  • X-MEN: LEGACY #8 – I’m enjoying Legion in this X-Men-less X-Men book, and Mike Del Mundo‘s covers are outstanding every time out.

Monday Night Raw Warm Up for March 25th, 2013

Hustle, loyalty, respect, and perfect attendance are just a few of the qualities that make John Cena a top contender. WWE Champion, the Rock, will also be in attendance on tonight's Raw.

Hustle, loyalty, respect, and perfect attendance are just a few of the qualities that make John Cena a top contender. WWE Champion, the Rock, will also be in attendance on tonight’s Raw.

Tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw emanates from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, just two weeks from WrestleMania 29. With the biggest show of the year right around the corner, WWE only advanced two of the three big matches on the card last week and the rest of the show seemed to be on autopilot. Things may change tonight with the Rock in attendance, but I think most fans would agree that Raw should always strive to be something worth watching and the WWE Champion’s appearance should be a given from week to week, not a special occasion.

My Latest Pull List – March 20th, 2013

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

Last week’s “break” with only seven new books waiting for me will be completely erased tomorrow. If the shipping lists are accurate, there are eleven new books on my list this week. I can’t believe I’ll be alone in this being a huge week.

  • ALL NEW X-MEN #9– This book has been great since page one and hasn’t really let up. Stuart Immonen returns this issue and I’m not gonna lie, reading “the original five get new costumes” in the solicit has this at the top of my reading list.
  • AVENGERS #8 – Another title that’s been hitting a lot of high notes since its launch. Things are unfolding a bit slowly, but Jonathan Hickman rarely disappoints.
  • CABLE AND X-FORCE #6 – I’m still not completely sold on this title, but I’ll keep coming back for Cable and Hope. Last issue went a long way to give some much needed perspective to what has been happening so far.
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL #11 – I’m woefully behind on this series. Joe Quinones‘ cover for this one looks great.
  • DOCTOR WHO: PRISONERS OF TIME #3 – Last issue gave a bit of an indication of what’s happening with the Doctor’s former selves, but with 11 Doctors and 12 issues it can’t continue the single issue treatment of each one without more threads pulling things together. I like seeing the old faces, but I don’t want this to wind up as only two issues of multi-Doctor team up.
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE #18 – Still playing catch up.
  • NEW AVENGERS #4 – Can’t wait to read what’s next here. Jock’s cover is incredible!
  • NOVA #2 – I enjoyed the first issue of this series, but I wasn’t sure about continuing with it. The second issue falling in a big week does not help its chances of staying on my list.
  • SAGA #11 – Brian K. Vaughan and Fioan Staples’ Saga gets a lot of well deserved praise each month. This issue should be no different.
  • X-FACTOR #253 – The Hell on Earth War continues to bring Peter David’s plot threads together, and last issue’s cliffhanger was just the latest unexpected twist.
  • X-TERMINATION #1 – I’m not reading any of the titles involved in this crossover regularly (Age of Apocalypse, Astonishing X-Men, and X-Treme X-Men), but I did follow all of them at one point. The advertising has captured my attention, and the connection to Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force has this on my list.

Check back every week to see what’s on My Latest Pull List and please share your thoughts on these titles and everything you’re reading this week in the comments.

Monday Night Raw Warm Up for March 18th, 2013

RAW_1033_Punk_Urn_Undertaker_WrestleMania_29

C.M. Punk’s disrespect of the Undertaker reached new depths last Monday as their confrontation at WrestleMania 29 draws nearer.

The Road to WrestleMania gets another week shorter tonight in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The path for the top of the card for this year’s big dance is clear (including Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar, C.M. Punk vs. The Undertaker, and of course John Cena vs. The Rock), but there are still a number of names that don’t have a place just yet. We have our favorites on both ends of the spectrum and as the show approaches we’ll be right here with our reactions to what’s in store.
