REVIEW: Doctor Who – The Curse of the Black Spot

Posted by under *like, Television | Leave a Comment |

This week’s installment was fun self-contained pirate adventure. These aren’t usually my favorite types of episodes but The Curse of the Black Spot was fairly satisfying (although Enlightenment from the classic series will always be the high water mark for Doctor Who pirate stories). Amidst all the swashbuckling, we get some progression of the overarching plotlines of the current series.

Spoilers ho!

REVIEW: Doctor Who – Day of the Moon

Posted by under *like, Television | Leave a Comment |

Just when I think this show and its creators can’t outdo themselves, they do. Details about this past weekend’s new episode of Doctor Who, Day of the Moon, will follow. If you haven’t watched the show, I highly recommend that you do. They do a much better job of telling the story than I could possibly hope to. I’m just thrilled to have the show back for another season and can’t wait to jump right in.

Spoilers ahead.

REVIEW: Doctor Who – The Impossible Astronaut

Posted by under *like, Television | Leave a Comment |

I try not to think about Doctor Who when it’s between seasons because it just makes me miss it that much more. The wait is now over as the newest series began in the US on BBC America this weekend and it did not disappoint. The Impossible Astronaut introduced a complex story that looks as if it might play out over the entire upcoming season (and may have even started before anyone realized). We’ve seen a lot of wild preview images for this year including a bearded straightjacketed Doctor that suggest a lot twists and turns coming up. Seeing them unfold one week at a time should be delightfully agonizing.

I’m sure I will spoil things moving forward.

WrestleMania Monday, 2011

This year’s WrestleMania has come and gone and while it wasn’t the greatest of all time, it was certainly good. If nothing else, the show had possibly the best presentation and production I’ve ever seen in terms of the ring entrance and staging. It makes sense since that is something they can improve upon every year regardless of who’s walking down the aisle and just about everything else. It really did look impressive and was worthy of WrestleMania even if there were some details of the show that weren’t.

Highlights from This Week’s Being Human Panel at the Paley Center For Media

On Wednesday, The Paley Center for Media held a panel discussing Syfy’s Being Human. If you’re not familiar with the show, feel free to check out MLD’s previous primer on the series. I should preface all of this by saying that I’m not fully caught up on Being Human, but that has more to do with only seeing the few episodes that Syfy offers online than anything to do with the show. What I have seen of the show I’ve liked, and after seeing this panel, I’m hooked.

I’ve always had a soft spot for shows where it’s clear that the cast is having fun making the show and enjoys the subject matter, and it’s clear that Being Human is one of those shows. Watching the cast interact together and describe the show, I can honestly say they love it as much as the fans.
