Drexel University’s Department of English and Philosophy’s 2011 “Week of Writing” begins Monday May 23rd. As part of the week’s events, they will host a discussion panel on “The Future of the Graphic Novel” Monday afternoon at 3PM. The discussion will be moderated by Don Haring (Dystopik Snomen), and panelists include editor Tom Brennan (Marvel) , writer John Arcudi (The Mask, BPRD), artist J.G. Jones (Wanted, Final Crisis) and myself (MyLatestDistraction.com).

I couldn’t be more excited to be part of this as a “critic/blogger/superfan.” The event is open to the public and all are welcome. We’ll have all the salient details from the discussion here on MLD next week for those who can’t attend. Hope to see you there.

REVIEW: Flashpoint #1

DC Comics’ big summer crossover, Flashpoint, began today and out of the gate it’s showing a lot of potential. There’s an element of mystery to go along with the strange new world we’re seeing and some intriguing redesigns for DC’s heroes. After the disappointing finish to Brightest Day, having this book on the shelf is a welcome sight as creators Geoff Johns, Andy Kubert and Sandra Hope are off to a strong start.

We’re going to spoil plot points for the issue and series here.

In anticipation of next month’s release of the X-Men: First Class film, Marvel is producing a set of “X-Men: Evolutions” variants on its May titles. This follows a month of “Thor Goes Hollywood” covers on books in April coinciding with the God of Thunder’s big screen debut and is part of a long line of variants timed with the release of movies featuring Marvel characters. The X-Men’s evolution themed covers feature individual characters highlighting design and costume changes they’ve undergone during their publication history.

REVIEW: Doctor Who – The Curse of the Black Spot

This week’s installment was fun self-contained pirate adventure. These aren’t usually my favorite types of episodes but The Curse of the Black Spot was fairly satisfying (although Enlightenment from the classic series will always be the high water mark for Doctor Who pirate stories). Amidst all the swashbuckling, we get some progression of the overarching plotlines of the current series.

Spoilers ho!

REVIEW: Doctor Who – Day of the Moon

Posted by under *like, Television | Join The Discussion |

Just when I think this show and its creators can’t outdo themselves, they do. Details about this past weekend’s new episode of Doctor Who, Day of the Moon, will follow. If you haven’t watched the show, I highly recommend that you do. They do a much better job of telling the story than I could possibly hope to. I’m just thrilled to have the show back for another season and can’t wait to jump right in.

Spoilers ahead.
