REVIEW: Superman Unchained #1

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Superman_Unchained_2013_1_Jim_Lee_coverIt’s been a while since we’ve talked, but a week where both Batman and Superman are at the top of my reading list must mean something special. Superstar writer Scott Snyder has been delivering on every level with his New 52 Batman, and now he’s getting the chance to work with Image Comics founder and DC  Comics co-publisher Jim Lee to launch Superman Unchained. The debut issue coincides not only with the much anticipated return of Superman to the big screen in Man of Steel, but also with the release of Snyder’s latest Batman event, Zero Year.

KevinMLD and I have now had a chance to read both books and it’s time to see how they hold up.

Batman_2011_21_Zero_HourIt’s been a while since we’ve talked, but a week where both Batman and Superman are at the top of my reading list must mean something special. Superstar writer Scott Snyder has been delivering on every level with his New 52 Batman along with Greg Capullo, and they’re launching their next big Batman event “Zero Year” in the same week as Snyder’s high profile debut of Superman Unchained with Jim Lee.

New York Comic Con 2012: Mattel DC Figures on Display

Posted by under *like, Comics, Toys | Leave a Comment |

We here at MLD Central spent a good portion of our weekend in New York City for the 2012 New York Comic Con. We had a pretty fun time and took tons of pictures of all of the crazy happenings. While many of the companies we were expecting to see such as Hasbro did not have presence on the convention floor, Mattel had a large booth promoting Voltron, Ghostbusters, Masters of the Universe, WWFE and their various DC Comics lines. Despite being a massive DC Comics fan, I don’t really keep up on the latest news concerning all of Mattel’s lines because in my opinion it feels like their products tend to be overpriced with poor distribution, and the company regularly displays a poor attitude towards the customers who support their business. As a result, I’m not totally sure how many of the photos below actually feature newly announced Mattel product.

REVIEW: Batman #10 or Digital Comics are Just Too Expensive

Posted by under *dislike, Comics, Technology | Join The Discussion |

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, let me tell you a true story. It’s slightly earlier today and comic book news Web Sites are beginning to post articles suggesting something big happens in Batman #10 – the latest chapter of Scott Snyder’s Night of the Owls crossover. Seeing as how I haven’t taken my lunch break yet and that we live in an amazing era of technologically, I decide that I might as well just download and read the comic before some idiot online spoils in a headline whatever it is that happens in this issue that I’m sure will change Batman forever or at least until Tony Daniel gets the opportunity to taint it. I’m sorry. That was off topic, unnecessary and just mean.

I Don’t Even Like Marvel vol. 2 – A Guide to DC Heroics figures

Posted by under *like, Toys | Join The Discussion |

A few months back I wrote about Marvel’s Heroics figures. A series of tiny, blind boxed, 97 cent non-articulated figures. The figures walk an odd line between featuring detailed costumes while having almost blank faces. It was a sad tale about a quest for a Hulk or Captain America figure neither of which I found. This is a very different article. This is all about DC Heroics. And this time it didn’t matter who was in the plastic balls, because I wanted them all anyway. I’m a sucker for all things DC. Always have been. One thing I learned in purchasing this batch of DC figures is that if you turn the plastic ball so that the wrapper runs perpendicular to the split in the ball, you can place just a little pressure on the crack and it will open enough to allow you a peek at what figure is in the ball without actually opening it. Blind box foiled!
