REVIEW: Flashpoint #2

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

In the past month, Flashpoint has suddenly become the most important series in the DC Universe with the announcement that every DC Comics title will relaunch after Flashpoint #5. That book was originally scheduled to be DC’s only monthly issue hitting store on August 31st, with little to no information available about what was happening to the rest of their publishing line. We’ve now seen a number of announcements about the “new” DC Universe that will follow with a host of #1 issues in September, but before all that there’s Flashpoint #2.

Spoilers for Flashpoint, the DC Universe and all of creation may follow.

REVIEW: Marvel’s Fear Itself #3

Posted by under *mixed, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Marvel’s Summer blockbuster, Fear Itself from writer Matt Fraction and artist Stuart Immonen, continued last week with issue #3. It’s an improvement for the series over issue #2, but there still seems to be something missing compared to the debut. It’s continues to be an interesting attempt to combine elements of the worlds of two of Marvel’s marquee heroes, but as we move through the Summer movie release schedule from May’s Thor to July’s Captain America the focus is shifting accordingly.

Spoilers for the issue and series will follow.

REVIEW: X-Men: First Class

Posted by under *like, Comics, Movies | Leave a Comment |

It’s impossible to detach myself from my fandom and the fact that I really wanted X-Men: First Class to be a good movie. Despite X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I believe there’s still hope for Fox’s current X-franchise and First Class went a long way toward confirming that. It’s by no means perfect and there are elements that hurt it, but ultimately I liked it. I had gotten increasingly more anxious/excited to see the movie leading into this weekend and while my initial reaction was full of very mixed feelings, I can say with certainty it’s worth seeing.

Spoilers ahead.

REVIEW: Marvel’s Fear Itself #2

Posted by under *mixed, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Fear Itself #3 is in stores tomorrow and we’re spending the day catching up in preparation. Issue #1 was a strong introduction, but it seems that #2 may have faltered a bit. A lot seems to be happening around the world (and beyond) as the Norse God of Fear and the Red Skull’s daughter, Sin, put their plan into action. Unfortunately, the assembly of their champions, “The Worthy,” left us with a lot of mixed feelings.

Spoilers for the issue and series will follow.

REVIEW: Marvel’s Fear Itself #1

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

We’re a bit behind in our discussion of Marvel’s Summer event book, Fear Itself, but with issue #3 shipping this Wednesday it’s time we caught up. With Thor and Captain America movies in theaters this Summer, it makes sense that Marvel would try to capitalize with a story focusing on those characters. It’s tough to say whether teaming up their villains is working just yet, but it’s a pretty interesting take on things. It’s also worth noting that DC Comics’ launched their latest event book, Flashpoint, earlier in May with issue #2 due in stores tomorrow as well. Comparisons may arise as these series go on with both companies centering their publishing lines on the events.

Spoilers for the issue and series to follow.
