


Thankfully, June 16, 2010 will be considered “The Day the World Cup Became Interesting.” First, Chile, though only winning 1-0, is the most exciting non-Brazil/Germany/Spain team in the tournament. They play three strikers, which means they are always pushing to score. They are like the Phoenix Suns of soccer, if that is possible. Second, Spain lost. More on that later. Third, Uruguay scored three goals in one game. That was fun to watch.

X-Men:Second Coming Chapter 11 is here, and Zeb Wells’ final New Mutants issue of the cross over was rock solid. It’s a book that made it clearer than ever how much I’m going to miss this when it’s over.

And so it comes down a deciding game seven in the NBA Finals this year between the league’s two most successful franchises. The Lakers and Celtics have won 32 of the league’s 63 NBA Championships between them, and that’s enough for me to not care at all about this year’s finals. Any and all rooting interest I had was lost back in November when it was clear the Sixers weren’t going anywhere.

So maybe this has been the worst World Cup ever. How many ties can there be before people just stop caring? Well, that depends. I do not know if anyone cares at this point. I guess people will pay attention to the US game on Friday against Slovenia, but nobody will actually watch it. Friday at 10am is not the best time for a soccer game.
