My Latest Pull List – July 31st, 2013

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

Nine new books on my list this week.

  • BATMAN ANNUAL #2 – A Zero Year tie-in. As much as I’m enjoying Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman, I’m not sure if I’m getting this on Wednesday. It will get a long look at the store.
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL #14 – I’m a few issues behind with the current crossover with Avengers Assemble. A few too many issues in the last two months for me to keep up with.
  • DOCTOR WHO: PRISONERS OF TIME #7 – I had a chance to read an advance preview of this one over the weekend. While it’s a fun issue with a much appreciated guest appearance, the book takes the series a step backward with very little tying it to the last six issues. It’s particularly disappointing after the last issue finally started tying things together.
  • GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #5 – So this is the Age of Ultron aftermath issue for Brian Bendis’ Guardians. Neil Gaiman’s name has also been attached to the book as it’s the Marvel debut of Angela, a Gaiman creation formerly of Todd McFarlane’s Image series Spawn. I have no idea what to expect from what Marvel is doing here.
  • UNCANNY X-FORCE #9 – This series has been steadily improving and there are so many interesting stories set up with Spiral, Bishop, and Fantomex. I was also happy to see the team distanced from Wolverine’s school a few issues back.
  • UNCANNY X-MEN #9 – Dazzler: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. plus Chris Bachalo. This will easily be the first book I read this week.
  • WHAT IF AVX #4 – There was no way I was keeping up with this one and its weekly shipping schedule.
  • X-MEN #3 – This book has quickly jumped to the top of my reading list. Bendis is doing some great stuff in his Uncanny and All-New X-Men series, but Brian Wood and Olivier Coipel are off to a great start here.
  • X-MEN: LEGACY #14 – Some catching up to do with this one. Actually, a lot of catching up.

My Latest Pull List – July 24th, 2013

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

This was a tough week for determining exactly which new books were shipping to comic shops. There was a lot of conflicting information (for instance, the Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time issue included above did not actually arrive in stores), but it looks like I brought home 7 new books  today.

  • BATMAN SUPERMAN #2 – I’ve been limiting myself to following three monthly DC titles since the relaunch of the New 52, but this one is too good to pass up. Looks like I’m up to four at the moment with Batman, Superman Unchained, and Justice League. It doesn’t help that we’re currently in the throes of Trinity War across all of the Justice League books.
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #22 – I’m not terribly familiar with the characters starring in this title, and this Trinity War crossover issue will be my first of the series. It may not matter that I don’t know the characters given the way the Justice League took over the pages of Justice League of America last week, but maybe the principals with have a chance to say something. I’m also not crazy about the team being called the “Justice League Dark” and I’m surprised Wonder Woman is OK with it after her reaction to the existence and name of the JLA.
  • LAZARUS #2 – This book is amazing. I picked up issue #1 knowing nothing about it and just got to it over the weekend. As writer Greg Rucka describes, it’s plausible science fiction in a world based on an extrapolation of our own, and that’s exactly the kind of stuff I’m into. Looking forward to more.
  • NEW AVENGERS #8 – I enjoyed the first six issues of this series far more than #7, but with Marvel’s Infinity event right around the corner I’m sure that will change with this prelude issue.
  • UNCANNY AVENGERS #10 – I’m not sure I’m sold on the most recent Avengers/X-Men villain mashup this series has introduced. Red Skull/Xavier brain? OK. Kang/Apocalypse Twins? Absolutely! Four Horsemen featuring Grim Reaper, Sentry, Banshee, and Daken? That’s going to take a great story. I think the Sentry’s return is the biggest problem for me given the lengths involved in writing him out of the Marvel Universe during Siege. Also, I think it was hinted that Banshee stuck around after returning in Necrosha, so hopefully that’s addressed.
  • WHAT IF AVX #3 – Issue #2 just shipped last week, so I surprised to see this on the shelf today. Either way, the Jorge Molina cover is incredible.
  • WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #33 – This issue has been on my radar for a while mostly for the X-Men 50th Anniversary variant. Unfortunately, I’m many issues behind on this series with no sign I’ll be catching up anytime soon.

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

Another nine new books on my list for this Wednesday.

  • ALL-NEW X-MEN #14 – Cannot wait. The cover art is incredible and the preview indicates we’re in for a great issue.
  • AVENGERS #16 – Really looking forward to Infinity, but the build up has been rock solid.
  • AVENGERS ASSEMBLE #17 – Buying this for the crossover with Captain Marvel and I’m not caught up at all.
  • BATMAN ’66 #1 – Worth a shot.
  • CABLE AND X-FORCE #11 – Still not crazy about this title, but it’s steadily improving.
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #6 – Trinity War part two. I jumped in after skipping a lot of issues ofJustice League last week and it looks like I’m in for the entire crossover.
  • UNCANNY X-FORCE #8 – This has been getting better and better with every issue.
  • WHAT IF? AVX #2 – The first issue was interesting enough to come back for more.
  • X-FACTOR #259 – The history of Longshot and Shatterstar by Peter David? No way I’d miss this.

My Latest Pull List – July 10th, 2013

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

Seven new books on the list this week. Only two Marvel books makes this an atypical list, and it feels like a lot DC books compared to what I normally bring home.

  • ASTONISHING X-MEN #64 – I’m way behind on this title. Embarrassingly far.
  • BATMAN #22 – Part one of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Zero Year was great. I fully expect that to continue as this series has been rock solid since it started with the New 52.
  • EAST OF WEST #4 – I’m an issue behind here too, but the start of Jonathan Hickman‘s latest Image series was strong enough to keep me on board.
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE #22Trinity War begins at last. It feels like a long time since this event was first teased in DC’s 2012 Free Comic Book Day special and I’m ready to see how it plays out.
  • SHELTERED #1 – Most first issues from Image Comics are worth a look right now. I’m not familiar with the creative team of Ed Brisson and John Christmas, but seeing the book described as a “pre-apocalyptic tale of survival” was enough to sell me on it.
  • SUPERMAN UNCHAINED #2 – I’m on the fence about continuing here. Issue #1 was decent, but if I had to pick a new DC book to keep up with it would be Greg Pak and Jae Lee’s Batman / Superman.
  • UNCANNY X-MEN #8 – I’m thrilled to see Chris Bachalo back. The last story arc focused on Magik and had a really strong finish, but seeing Cyclops and Magneto in the spotlight again should be fun.

My Latest Pull List – July 3rd, 2013

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

A Wednesday with only three new books is a welcome sight after last week.

  • AVENGERS #15 – I honestly can’t wait for Marvel’s Infinity event to arrive, but another prelude issue from mastermind Jonathan Hickman should help pass the time nicely.
  • WHAT IF? AVX #1 – I enjoyed Avengers vs. X-Men quite a bit and I’m looking forward to what Jimmy Palmiotti and Jorge Molina have in store for this mini-series. More of Hope Summers interacting with Magneto should be interesting even in a What If? setting.
  • X-MEN: LEGACY #13 – I really need to catch up on this title.

I’m also considering AVENGERS AI #1 and TRINITY OF SIN: PANDORA #1, but that will likely come down to a decision at the store after getting a closer look at them.
