Greenberg’s Train and Toy Show Visits Reading, PA
One of the things that became clear at the event is the variety of ways people partake in the hobby. There are clearly those who just want to set up a train set in a simple oval for their kids to play with at Christmas. (How did train sets get tied so closely to Christmas in the first place?) For these people there were a variety of Thomas the Tank Engine and Polar Express sets available in a range of sizes and prices. But then there are also those who invest massive amounts of time in creating intricately detailed layouts including trying to replicate things like grass, hills and cemeteries. As you’ll see in the photos below, some of the layouts on display were massive, easily dozens of feet in diameter. I have no idea how these giant detailed displays are created and transported. But for these hardcore hobbyist there was an amazing variety of accessories and tools for sale as well as expensive locomotives that can replicate the sound and smoke of real trains.
The event was definitely an eye opening experience that I think would appeal to a lot of people. Check it out if it comes to your town. In the meantime check out the gallery below.
