Super Bowl XLIVe

Posted by under *mixed, Sports |

While a number of Super Bowl parties were going on today, the two+ feet of snow that fell this weekend kept us home for the game.  As a result, I’m essentially alone with my thoughts since Angie hates football with a passion.  I will now inflict them on you.

Super Bowl XLIV

Pregame

Did coverage really need to start at 2PM?  I didn’t watch it, and I’m sure there are people out there that did, but that’s just excessive.

1st Quarter

Robin Hood: show me less Russell Crowe and more Cate Blanchet. Is there really a need for another Robin Hood movie?

Way too many Doritos commercials, and I love Doritos.

I just don’t get why Go Daddy is advertising exactly.  There is no reason for most of America to visit that site.  I get that they have attractive women taking off their clothes, but what would anyone do once they got to that site save for buy a domain name and never visit again.

The Simpsons Coke commercial was strange and I couldn’t help but focus on the distinct lack of character voices.  Guess that was either too expensive or maybe the cast is trying to preserve their artistic integrity.

Bud Light autotune just reminded me how sick I am of autotune.

The fiddling gopher for Monster.com was fun but really causes no reaction.

I’m rooting for the Colts (because I have to root for someone), but where were those 96 yard drives during the regular season?  I could have really used performances like that from Manning and Addai on my fantasy team this year.  Still, it was a great drive.

2nd Quarter

Just when I was admiring the Saints progress against the Colts defense, Dwight Freeney comes in with a monster sack.

Shudder Island looks fantastic, but I will never get Angie to watch it.

Leno does a commercial for Letterman’s show.  That’s insane, but all I could wonder was why Jay wasn’t eating Doritos.

What is with all these dudes in their underwear?  Did we really need to pair the CareerBuilder one (which was funny) with the Dockers one (which was just too much after the first one)?

That Garçon drop on third down was rough, but comments about the fact that a punt has never been returned for a touchdown are rougher.

I liked the Bud Light “Lost” commercial and the one with the meteor featuring Pierre Francis Chang from Lost.

I will not be watching the NFL draft live in primetime, but I will watch The Who at halftime.

I still don’t like Jeremy Shockey and he hasn’t been a Giant or mattered for years.

CBS must have licensed Metallica songs from Death Magnetic for their NFL broadcasts this season and it’s actually been the thing I enjoy most about their games.

21-yard gain, 7-yard loss, 27-yard gain, 1st and goal at the 3 yard line. Rush for no gain, false start, 6 yard rush, can’t get a play off before the 2 minute warning, and two stops at the 2 yard line.  20+ plays in the quarter to the Colts’ 3 and they come away with zero points.  Saints’ offense, you’re in trouble, and then you get the ball back and manage a field goal, ok…

The Dodge Charger “Man’s Last Stand” commercial drove me away through 90% of it, but I was back in for the ending.

Ugh, CSI in space is as bad a Bones versus JFK.

Now they pair the Little Kiss with the creepy Punxatawny Polamalu commercial, I can’t take that concentration of creepy just like I couldn’t take the concentration of male nudity earlier.

Jim Nantz’s for FloTV was as funny as his HIMYM appearance, but isn’t he having a ton of marital problems? These jokes are a little too close to home for him.

I do not like to laugh at a robot’s sadness, Intel.

Did they change the words to My Generation to “don’t wanna die young, I wanna get old” for that FloTV commercial?  Are you kidding me?

Halftime

Not a lot to say. Had a delicious Chicken Kiev dinner.  Wondered if Pete Townsend was actually playing. Laughed with Angie about the effectiveness of flash photography from the stands.

Super Bowl 3rd Quarter

Onside kick to start the half, I love it.  That caused so much confusion! When do you ever get this level of Super Bowl mayhem? Oh it gets better, former Eagle Hank Baskett is responsible for the Saints getting the ball.

I am also amused that the next play got them to the Colts’ 45 yard line, and the Saints quickly take the lead.

Oh Punch Buggy Monday could get ugly.  Loved Stevie Wonder and Tracy Morgan there at the end.

Peyton Manning with another gorgeous throw into coverage to Dallas Clark. Really impressive, and Addai with a great run.  The Saints keeping the Colts’ offense off the field is critical.
The Chevy Chase comeback tour continues. Community is a funny show, but will I remember to visit HomeAway.com…

CBS’ commercials for their shows do not inspire me to watch, even for the shows I already watch.

Three field goals of 40+ yards is impressive.  This Garrett Hartley is earning his money.

I liked the google commercial a lot, but what I like more is the Twitter results window that shows up in my Google results when I’m fact checking myself.

Sock Monkey tattoo! Robot in a robot dance contest! That was great, KIA.

Super Bowl 4th Quarter

Going for it on 4th and 2 at mid-field was bold, but the 51-yard field goal attempt in that situation was foolhardy.

That is an expensive looking Visio ad. I had no idea giant mechanical arms performed my page loads.

Alright Colts, please don’t let Shockey’s touchdown be the game winner.

While we’re waiting on the inevitable challenge, this Dante’s Inferno game has piqued my interest.  If anyone knows more about it, I’m interested in hearing it.

Charles Barkley for Taco Bell…”turble.”

Tracy Porter running the interception back for a touchdown should seal this for the Saints.  Sorry, Peyton, I don’t know that even you can come back here.

Hargrove, that was dirty business on the late hit.  Definition of unnecessary. Reggie Wayne, you should have made that catch, but it probably wouldn’t have mattered.

Postgame

Great game! After watching the way these two teams played, I don’t think the Eagles even deserved to make the playoffs let alone win a SuperBowl this year.

Couldn’t be more sick of E*Trade babies.

Congratulations, Saints.
