Phillies post for 9/15, all I need is a title…

The Philadelphia Phillies begin their final home stand of the season this afternoon with a double-header against the Florida Marlins. Today’s games come after the Phillies clinched a playoff spot for the fifth straight year last night in Houston. Today’s twin billing will be followed by two four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals to wrap up the year at home. These will be the ninth and tenth four-game series of the season (eight were originally scheduled and two are the result of rescheduled games) for the Phillies and they have the distinction of having won all of the four-gamers they’ve played to date including three sweeps (Padres, Marlins, Reds). It’s one of many remarkable statistics for the team in 2011.

It was also reported earlier today that the Phillies have not themselves been swept this season. While that’s a great accomplishment, the statement is not entirely accurate as the Phillies were swept in a two-game series at St. Louis 5/16 – 5/17. That series is part of another scheduling oddity that sees the Phillies playing the Cardinals on three separate occasions this season rather than the typical two for a total of nine games. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen that before.

While we’re talking about not seeing things, I won’t be seeing or hearing today’s game due to baseball broadcast technology simultaneously passing me by and being outdated. My iPhone can’t run the MLB app and an AM radio is actually hard to come by these days.
