My Latest Pull List – May 14th, 2014

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Seven new books on my list this week. Looks like I won’t be picking them up until Thursday though. Vivre de Belgique – ptb

  • ALL-NEW X-MEN #27 – Without question my favorite Marvel title right now. I had the return of the villains on the cover spoiled for me months ago, but I was so caught up in the events of issue #26 that their appearance on the final pages still took me a bit by surprise.
  • AVENGERS #29 – An Original Sin tie-in. I’ve fallen behind on this and New Avengers but I managed to make up some ground last night. I’m honestly looking forward to how the series will tie into Marvel’s big Summer event, but not as much as I’m enjoying the fact that I just found what appears to be an episode of a Silver Surfer cartoon on live tv – features Zenn-La, the Kree, Skrulls, Galactus, and the Watcher.
  • BATMAN ETERNAL #6 – My available reading time is not conducive to the weekly shipping schedule of this series. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far, but there’s so much more to read.
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL #3 – I like where this relaunch is headed. Still need to read issue #2, but the cosmic adventures of Carol Danvers in space works for me.
  • NEW AVENGERS #18 – Nearly caught up on this, but issue #17 advised me to read Avengers #28 before continuing. I should be caught up by the time I get my books this week.
  • NIGHTCRAWLER #2 – Not at all sure I’ll continue with this series, but the cover was enough to keep it on my list this week.
  • X-FORCE #5 – I go back and forth with how I’m feeling about this series. The pairing of Cable and Psylocke has a lot of appeal, but the absence of Hope and the series’ mission so far puts it at minus 2. Going to keep giving it a chance.

Eight new books on my list this week.

  • ALL-NEW X-FACTOR #7 – Can’t believe how many issue of this series have shipped since this debuted earlier this year. I’m hoping that it will settle into a monthly schedule soon.
  • BATMAN ETERNAL #5 – Another week, another issue. It’s challenge finding reading time to keep up but I love that there’s more every Wednesday.
  • CYCLOPS #1 – Officially, I don’t think this book needs to exist, but I will buy it, read it, and probably love it. Greg Rucka is writing this new series featuring the space-faring adventures of the time-displaced Scott Summers from the pages of Brian Bendis’ All-New X-Men. While I haven’t followed much of Rucka’s other work, his current Image Comics series Lazarus has become one of the titles I anticipate most each month.
  • MAGNETO #3 – I blame the Marvel Now double shipping schedule for falling behind on some of the books I follow, but I fell behind on this and Moon Knight as well and they’re as monthly as can be.
  • MOOK KNIGHT #3 – See above.
  • NEW 52 FUTURES END #1 – This looks interesting enough to check out the first issue. Batman Beyond in the regular DC Universe has a lot to do with that. The fact that this is a second long-term weekly book DC is asking fans to commit to does not bode well for it staying on my list.
  • ORIGINAL SIN #1 – I’m intrigued here. The zero issue was a nice setup and I’m looking forward to Marvel’s latest Summer event series. The promotional rubber Watcher eyeballs were an odd touch, particularly the energy crackling around the iris and pupil all of which the Watcher lacks.
  • X-MEN: NO MORE HUMANS – The latest in Marvel’s new line of original graphic novels (distinct from a collection of monthly releases) is arguably the book I’m most looking forward to this week. I’m a huge fan of Mike Carey’s X-Men work and I’m honestly thrilled to see more of it.

Nine new books on my list this week.

  • ALL-NEW X-MEN #26 – Last issue was interesting, particularly with the Watcher coming into focus in Original Sin, but I’m looking forward to getting to what’s next after The Trial of Jean Grey.
  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 – I gave up on Superior Spider-Man pretty early, but I can’t resist giving this a look.
  • AVENGERS #28 – I may be an issue (or even two) behind on this. Feels like a long time since it last shipped.
  • BATMAN ETERNAL #4 – So far so good. Weekly is tough to keep up with financially and for reading time.
  • NEW AVENGERS #17 – I think I’m in the same spot for this as Avengers.
  • ORIGIN II #5 – Waiting to read this once the whole thing has shipped.
  • SERENITY LEAVES ON THE WIND #4 – I’m enjoying the chance to go back to this world and its characters. It’s a shame we didn’t get more from the TV series.
  • UNCANNY AVENGERS ANNUAL #1 – Not sure if this ties into the Kang/Apocalypse Twins story, but I’m in.
  • X-FORCE #4 – Still deciding if I’m in for the long haul with this one.

My Latest Pull List – April 23rd, 2014

Seven new books on my list this week.

  • 24 #1 – I’m totally ready for the television return of 24. Don’t know if a 24 book would be on my list if the show weren’t on its way back.
  • BATMAN ETERNAL #3 – This title is causing me to rethink everything on my list. A year-long weekly series is a big commitment and other books might need to go. Plus I’m motivated to keep up with this and it’s tough not to question other stuff on my list that I’ve fallen behind on.
  • GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #14 – Curious to see where this goes following the Trial of Jean Grey. Feels like the series has been pulled in a lot of directions, none of which are its own.
  • HALO ESCALATION #5 – Fell an issue behind on this series.
  • LAZARUS #8 – I look for this to be on the shipping list every week. It’s absolutely one of my favorite books right now. Definitely the first thing I’ll read this week.
  • ORIGINAL SIN #0 – This could be a fun event given that state of Hickman’s Avengers titles and the Watcher’s recent appearance in All-New X-Men.
  • UNCANNY AVENGERS #19 – I’m a big fan of Havok and all of his various alternate timeline children and baby mamas. This has a lot of the elements I look for in a story.

Nine new books on my list this week. The blood moon has left me with little energy to write about them.

  • AMAZING X-MEN #6 – I’m enjoying this title more than Aaron’s Wolverine and the X-Men, and while an appearance by Mystique should be fun, the upcoming issue with Spider-Man and the return of Kyle and Yost are what I’m looking forward to most.
  • BATMAN #30 – Very happy to see this on the list this week. Both Zero Year and Forever Evil feel like permanent fixtures at this point, and that’s not entirely bad.
  • BATMAN ETERNAL #2 – I’m really struggling with my decision to continue with this title. A year-long weekly book is a big commitment. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far and suprisingly a big part of the draw here for me is Bluebird.
  • HULK #1 – I can’t pass up a Hulk #1.
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE #29 – I think I’m done with this title after Forever Evil wraps up. The Cyborg/Metal Men story is fun enough to stick around for the conclusion, but I’m not generally looking forward to the book and dropping it would help the decision to continue with Batman Eternal.
  • UNCANNY X-MEN #20 – I like what Bendis has been doing with the X-titles and Bachalo’s art makes makes this the first book I will read this Wednesday.
  • WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #3 – Probably only giving this one more issue. I’m already behind with the double shipping and don’t know that I’ll miss it.
  • X-FORCE #3 – Pretty solid start to this one. I like the interaction between Cable and Psylocke, but I hate that Hope is on the shelf.
  • X-MEN #13 – I’m actually pretty far behind on this series. Don’t know that I’ve read it since the All-New Marvel Now branding happened.
