My Latest Pull List – January 9th, 2013

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

Eight new books on my list for this week including three series finales and two debuts

  • CABLE AND X-FORCE #3 – I like that Hope Summers has a title she’s regularly appearing in, but I’m still not sure how much I’m enjoying this one. It’s hard to get a sense of Cable in particular and it feels like the character we’ve seen over the last few years is still missing in action.
  • FIRST X-MEN #5 – Neal Adams X-Men sounds great, but this series left me with a mixed reaction after the first issue. I waited for the whole thing to ship before continuing so I’m curious to see how the latest X-retcon turned out.
  • INFINITE VACATION #5 – “…the mind-blowing conclusion to the biggest sci-fi epic of 2011!” I’ll need to re-read this entire series now that it’s wrapping up. That is if I can find the issues around here…
  • SECRET AVENGERS #36 – I honestly thought #35 was the series finale before reading it, but I’m looking forward to the real final issue and the conclusion to Rick Rememder’s Descendants storyline.
  • STAR WARS #1 – I’ve tried a few of Dark Horse’s other Star Wars series and they haven’t really been for me. Brian Wood writing the characters from the original trilogy is worth a look.
  • SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1 – Lots of chatter about this one and I’m hoping to avoid having anything spoiled. I didn’t hate the ending to Amazing Spider-Man but I don’t know that this is a Spider-Man I want to read about.
  • WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #23 – I don’t think I’ve read this since issue #20. I’m not crazy about the series but one of the more appealing elements is Kitty Pryde. In the five issues of All New X-Men that have shipped, I can tell that’s going to be the better place to see her story so the days of this title being on my list may be numbered.
  • X-MEN LEGACY #4 – Mike Del Mundo’s covers for this series might be enough to keep it on my list, but I did like what I read in the first two issues.

Happy New Year, everyone!

I’m starting the new year off small with only four new books for the first Wednesday of 2013.

  • ALL NEW X-MEN #5 – This has been the highlight of Marvel Now for me. Can’t believe another new issue is out already. I’m also going to track down a copy of the Olivier Coipel variant for this one.
  • THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS #8 – This is consistently a fun read. I thought it was going on hiatus, but it’s on all the lists as shipping this week.
  • MORBIUS LIVING VAMPIRE #1 – I’m giving all of the Marvel Now titles a shot, otherwise I don’t think this would something that would end up on my list. Marvel has been trying hard to get a vampire book over and Morbius may be better approach than their recent efforts with Dracula.
  • NEW AVENGERS #1 – I like the Illuminati and using this title to showcase them has a lot of appeal. This is one of the few Marvel Now titles I’m going into expecting to buy issue #2.

My Latest Pull List – December 26th, 2012

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

After last week’s deluge of books, the list this week is down to three new books. It’s a rare week when most of my books aren’t Marvel.

  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700 – Lots of talk about this final issue of the series after it was leaked digitally and physically weeks before it’s official street date. I’ve avoided all information as best I can and I’m looking forward to discovering just how it ends.
  • AQUAMAN #15 – I was planning to drop this title after issue #13, but the Throne of Atlantis crossover with Justice League has kept me around. A double helping of story today could represent a tipping point for my pull list.
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE #15 – The setup for Throne of Atlantis over the last two Cheetah-centric issues had a lot of appeal even if the main plot wasn’t so compelling. With Jim Lee off the series I’m unsure how much longer I’ll be following it.

Happy Holidays, everyone! Although, every Wednesday is like a holiday in a way.

My Latest Pull List – December 19th, 2012

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

Huge week with 12 new books. Also on my list this Wednesday is a new baby, so my comments will understandably be brief.

  • A+X #3 – The solicits I’m seeing for this book appear to be off by an issue so I have no idea what’s actually going to be in this book. Black Panther and Storm? Maybe?
  • ALL NEW X-MEN #4 – I like this title, but I’m not a fan of Marvel’s double shipping of their Marvel Now titles. This is the fourth All New X-Men in six weeks!
  • ASTONISHING X-MEN #57 – I honestly have no idea what’s happening in this book.
  • AVENGERS #2 – Issue #1 was a strong start from Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena. The expanding cast is intriguing.
  • CABLE AND X-FORCE #2 – Wasn’t crazy about issue #1 (or that is shipped only one week ago), but I’ll keep giving this book a chance as I’m a big fan of Cable and Hope.
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL #8 – Still behind on my reading. I did like seeing Captain Marvel mentioned in the Amazing Spider-Man recap page a few weeks ago. It was a nice reminder that I need to catch up.
  • SAGA #8 – The cover to this issue is one of my favorites. The inside is pretty great too.
  • SECRET AVENGERS #35 – Final issue. One of two this week by Rick Remender.
  • UNCANNY X-FORCE #35 – Final issue. The other finale this week from Rick Remender. I have high hopes after way he wrapped up the first eighteen issues of this series.
  • WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #22 – I’ve fallen behind on this series (only two issues as of today), but it may be on the chopping block? I don’t know.
  • X-FACTOR #249 – I’m two issues behind on this too, but it’s perfectly safe and will remain on my pull list as long as Marvel keeps publishing it.
  • X-MEN LEGACY #3 – Another great cover. Really enjoying the series.

My Latest Pull List – December 12th, 2012

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

A light list with only four new titles took me by surprise this week. The break is welcome since I have a lot reading to catch up on.

  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #699.1 – The words “point one” get thrown around a lot by Marvel, but one thing that’s seems consistent is that books bearing the moniker are touted as jumping on points. A “point one” issue shipping just before a series finale is certainly stretching the term, even if Morbius is getting his own Marvel Now title.
  • AVENGERS ARENA #1 – This is perhaps my least anticipated book of the Marvel Now launch. I like some of the “Marvel Youth” set to appear in this title, but I’m no fan of the villain Arcade and the Battle Royale-esque premise doesn’t thrill me at all.
  • BATMAN #15 – This would have been the book I was most looking forward to reading this week, but I’ve been advised by a trusted source (i.e. KevinMLD) to read Scott Snyder’s Black Mirror run on Detective Comics first. I’ve been meaning to read that for a while now and the small pull list this week might actually make it possible.
  • CABLE AND X-FORCE #1 – Since I won’t be getting to Batman first thing tomorrow, this steps right into the top spot. I’m an unabashed Cable fan and I have high hopes for this series. Seeing Havok prominently featured in the preview goes a long way to help. Admittedly, I’m not crazy about this being one of two Marvel Now X-Force titles or the redesign of Doctor Nemesis. It’s a very ’90s look and it does not seem right for his character nor anyone that was born in 1906.
