Monday Night Raw Warm Up for October 17th, 2011

We’re counting down the hours to another edition of WWE’s Monday Night Raw and a great way to prepare is taking a look back at what we saw last week. The show from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma was touted to be “historic” as we got a glimpse of what WWE would look like with most of its talent and staff walking out on Chief Operations Officers, Triple H. I don’t know that any history was made, but a show that had potential to take things in an interesting direction really just exposed many of WWE’s weaknesses.

Monday Night Raw Warm Up for October 10th, 2011

Listening to what WWE has had to say about it, last week’s Monday Night Raw from Lafayette, Louisiana was a historic night that ushered in the “Walk Out” era as most of the Raw roster cast a no confidence vote in Triple H’s tenure as COO. It was admittedly a bit surreal seeing the assembled referees, announcers, and wrestlers leave the ringside area with only Triple H remaining when all was said and done. Unfortunately, it was a poorly executed segment that’s only “historic” because we’re being told it’s historic with less than a week having passed.

Tonight’s show in Oklahoma City is being touted as the next piece of history as Triple H tries to pick up the pieces and move forward with only John Cena, Randy Orton, Big Show, CM Punk and Sheamus officially scheduled to appear.

Decision Time – DC’s “New 52” edition

Posted by under *mixed, Comics | Leave a Comment |

KevinMLD spent a lot of time here discussing what titles were expected to be hits and misses for him this month from DC Comics’ line-wide relaunch referred to as The New 52. I’ve remained relatively quiet while considering his recommendations and spending my time talking about some of September’s Other #1s. I did sample a fair number of New 52 books as well and not surprisingly, I went with almost all super hero titles choosing to leave most of DC’s “Dark” and “Edge” stuff off of my pull list. In fact, even though I feel like I invested a lot in the New 52 this month, I bought fewer than they’re shipping in one week and it’s time to evaluate whether I’ll be back for issue #2 of any of these titles.

Kevin has agreed to join me in running down these books and his perspective as someone who’s followed DC’s publishing line closely over the years should be very different from my own as I’m relatively out of touch with it.

Monday Night Raw Warm Up for Hell in a Cell (10/2/2011)

Posted by under *mixed, Television | Leave a Comment |

WWE presents one of the newer additions to their pay-per-view line up tonight with the third annual Hell in a Cell event live from New Orleans, Louisiana. There aren’t many matches announced for the card, so last week’s Monday Night Raw in Kansas City, Missouri spent a lot of time building up the triple threat main event that sees Alberto Del Rio and C.M. Punk challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship. Three competitors in the cage is a first for the Hell in a Cell match and the new twist is likely a consequence of having an event dedicated to a match that was once reserved for only the most heated of rivalries.

REVIEW: Ultimate Comics X-Men #1

Posted by under *mixed, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Continuing the onslaught of new books for the month of September, this week sees the return of Ultimate Comics X-Men to Marvel’s relaunching Ultimate line. In the spirit of all of these new books (both from DC Comics’ “New 52″ and beyond), we’ve been trying to showcase as many as we can in a what is a truly remarkable time for comics. Ultimate Comics X-Men #1 is a book I would have passed on otherwise, and I’m a serious X-Men fan. Writer Nick Spencer and artist Paco Medina introduce a dramatically new status quo for the mutants of this world here and as first issues go, this one puts a lot on the table.

Spoilers regarding everything you thought you knew about the X-Men will follow.
