My Latest Pull List – December 19th, 2012

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

Huge week with 12 new books. Also on my list this Wednesday is a new baby, so my comments will understandably be brief.

  • A+X #3 – The solicits I’m seeing for this book appear to be off by an issue so I have no idea what’s actually going to be in this book. Black Panther and Storm? Maybe?
  • ALL NEW X-MEN #4 – I like this title, but I’m not a fan of Marvel’s double shipping of their Marvel Now titles. This is the fourth All New X-Men in six weeks!
  • ASTONISHING X-MEN #57 – I honestly have no idea what’s happening in this book.
  • AVENGERS #2 – Issue #1 was a strong start from Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena. The expanding cast is intriguing.
  • CABLE AND X-FORCE #2 – Wasn’t crazy about issue #1 (or that is shipped only one week ago), but I’ll keep giving this book a chance as I’m a big fan of Cable and Hope.
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL #8 – Still behind on my reading. I did like seeing Captain Marvel mentioned in the Amazing Spider-Man recap page a few weeks ago. It was a nice reminder that I need to catch up.
  • SAGA #8 – The cover to this issue is one of my favorites. The inside is pretty great too.
  • SECRET AVENGERS #35 – Final issue. One of two this week by Rick Remender.
  • UNCANNY X-FORCE #35 – Final issue. The other finale this week from Rick Remender. I have high hopes after way he wrapped up the first eighteen issues of this series.
  • WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #22 – I’ve fallen behind on this series (only two issues as of today), but it may be on the chopping block? I don’t know.
  • X-FACTOR #249 – I’m two issues behind on this too, but it’s perfectly safe and will remain on my pull list as long as Marvel keeps publishing it.
  • X-MEN LEGACY #3 – Another great cover. Really enjoying the series.

My Latest Pull List – December 12th, 2012

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

A light list with only four new titles took me by surprise this week. The break is welcome since I have a lot reading to catch up on.

  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #699.1 – The words “point one” get thrown around a lot by Marvel, but one thing that’s seems consistent is that books bearing the moniker are touted as jumping on points. A “point one” issue shipping just before a series finale is certainly stretching the term, even if Morbius is getting his own Marvel Now title.
  • AVENGERS ARENA #1 – This is perhaps my least anticipated book of the Marvel Now launch. I like some of the “Marvel Youth” set to appear in this title, but I’m no fan of the villain Arcade and the Battle Royale-esque premise doesn’t thrill me at all.
  • BATMAN #15 – This would have been the book I was most looking forward to reading this week, but I’ve been advised by a trusted source (i.e. KevinMLD) to read Scott Snyder’s Black Mirror run on Detective Comics first. I’ve been meaning to read that for a while now and the small pull list this week might actually make it possible.
  • CABLE AND X-FORCE #1 – Since I won’t be getting to Batman first thing tomorrow, this steps right into the top spot. I’m an unabashed Cable fan and I have high hopes for this series. Seeing Havok prominently featured in the preview goes a long way to help. Admittedly, I’m not crazy about this being one of two Marvel Now X-Force titles or the redesign of Doctor Nemesis. It’s a very ’90s look and it does not seem right for his character nor anyone that was born in 1906.

My Latest Pull List – December 5th, 2012

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

A somewhat lighter week with seven new books.

  • ALL NEW X-MEN #3 – Issue #2 built on a solid start to Brian Bendis and Stuart Immonen’s new X-Men series. As much as I’m enjoying it, I’m not into double shipping in general and three issues in four weeks is really pushing it (especially with seven weeks between issues of Uncanny Avengers by contrast).
  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #699 – Pretty amazing revelation last issue that I managed to avoid before reading the book. With two issues left, it’s great to see something intriguing happening to close out the series at issue #700.
  • AVENGERS #1 – I’m trying all of the Marvel Now titles, but the vast majority aren’t books I’m going into expecting to stick around. I’m not a die hard Avengers fan, but I followed them more through the Bendis era than any other time. I’m still on the fence than most with this latest Avengers series, but Jonathan Hickman is usually great so there’s a good chance I’ll read beyond #1.
  • CYBER FORCE #2 – After a great start comes another free issue.
  • THUNDERBOLTS #1 – This could be crazy. Love all the red. Great promos. Red Hulk, Venom, Elektra, Deadpool, and the Punisher on that Julian Tedesco cover look great. Not sure about Daniel Way and Steve Dillon though…
  • X-FACTOR #248 – Continues to to be rock solid. Needs more Leonard Kirk.
  • X-MEN #39 – Way behind. Holding out for the finale.

My Latest Pull List – November 28th, 2012

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

Ten new books on my list this week, Uncanny Avengers and Planetoid are right at the top.

  • A+X #2 – Spider-Man and Beast versus zombies. There’s not really any way I can turn that down.
  • ALL NEW X-MEN #2 – I enjoyed the debut of this series a lot more than I expected, but I’m not sure why my expectations were low. The introduction of new mutants is still something I’m worried will get out of control, but so far so good.
  • AQUAMAN #14 – I was prepared to drop this title, but the upcoming crossover with Justice League is keeping me on board.
  • ASTONISHING X-MEN ANNUAL – Not sure about this one. It’s really only on my list to keep the series complete.
  • FF #1 – This is a Marvel Now title that I’m not totally sold on, but it’s worth a shot for Mike Allred.
  • NEW AVENGERS #34 – This title lost me over the last year or so with the exception of the Iron Fist / AvX tie-in story.
  • PLANETOID #4 – Really looking forward to the return of this book. The art is fantastic and the story took an interesting turn last tissue after a solid start.
  • SECRET AVENGERS #34 – The Descendants story is really interesting and I’m glad to see it’s getting a chance to wrap up before the Marvel Now relaunch.
  • UNCANNY AVENGERS #2 – Hated seeing this book delayed right out of the gate. I’m thrilled to see it back today, but if this is the flagship Marvel Now title I’d expect a creative change to keep it shipping monthly.
  • X-MEN LEGACY #2 – Legion’s story is off to a solid start. I was particularly happy to see a lot of the developments involving him from the previous volume of Legacy are still in play.

I’m also planning to take a look at Dynamtie’s MASKS #1 and Image’s NOWHERE MEN #1 while I’m at the store today.

My Latest Pull List – November 21st, 2012

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Weekly comic books are a big part of my life and below is a list of what I’ll be picking up this Wednesday along with cover artwork and previews courtesy of Comixology’s Pull List app.

Two new Marvel Now titles and a couple of Image Comics debuts have my list up to eleven books for this week.

  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #698 – Managed to fall behind on this title again. #700 can’t come soon enough.
  • ASTONISHING X-MEN #56 – Another book I’ve fallen behind on, but the back issues are nearing the top of my reading pile.
  • AVENGERS #34 – Brian BendisAvengers finale promises controversy harkening back to where things started in *Avengers Disassembled*. I do not expect this issue to reach that level of controversy.
  • CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 – John Romita Jr. has certainly fared better on solo titles than team books in recent years, so I’m hoping he makes a strong showing here with Captain America. It will take something really special to have me back for issue #2.
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL #7 – A confrontation with the Monica Rambeau “Captain Marvel” (now known as Photon) could be really interesting.
  • CLONE #1 – A new title from Robert Kirkman’s Skybound imprint and Image Comics. I’m not familiar with any members of the creative team (David Schulner, Juan Jose Ryp, and Felix Serrano) at first glance, but new sci-fi titles from Image have earned an automatic look. I’m also considering checking out this week’s Comeback #1.
  • INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #1 – Hulk as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. is interesting, and I trust Mark Waid to tell a good story. Lenil Yu’s promotional art for this book is also a major attraction.
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE #14 – I don’t get all this Cheetah business that started last issue, but I’ll continue to give this book a chance. The promise of something involving Pandora, Flashpoint, and the creation of the New 52 holds a lot of appeal for me.
  • UNCANNY X-FORCE #34 – The cover for this issue looks fantastic and while this title has had a few rough patches since #18, the conclusion to Rick Remender’s Apocalypse story has been great.
  • WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #21 – Last I was really noticing how frequently this book is shipping and here it is again a week later.
  • X-FACTOR #247 – The preview for this issue has me intrigued and Peter David hasn’t disappointed on this title.
