REVIEW: Conan the Barbarian #1

Today sees the release of the first issue of the latest Conan the Barbarian title from Dark Horse Comics. The new series from writer Brian Wood and artist Becky Cloonan is an adaptation of the Robert E. Howard short story, Queen of the Black Coast. Originally published in the magazine Weird Tales in 1934, the new comic series (Volume 3 from Dark Horse) will expand on the original story and will run through 2014.

Monday Night Raw Warm Up for February 6th, 2012

The Undertaker returned after nearly a year to challenge Triple H for a rematch at the "Super Bowl of Sports Entertainment," WrestleMania XXVIII.

With the 2012 Royal Rumble in the rear view mirror, we’re well on the Road to WreslteMania XXVIII. Last week’s Raw in Kansas City, Missouri, gave some strong indications where things are headed as Chris Jericho performed a sneak attack on WWE Champion C.M. Punk and the Undertaker returned to challenge Triple H. No decision has been made on who this year’s Rumble winner Sheamus will choose to take on with his guaranteed title match yet, but we’re sure to get more on all these fronts tonight in Oklahoma City.

Standard Deviations vol. 5: A look back at Marvel’s “70th Anniversary” variants

Two weeks ago we took a look at 2011’s Marvel Comics’ 50th Anniversary homage variants and I couldn’t help but mention 2009’s “70th Anniversary” set. You read those numbers correctly: 70th anniversary in 2009, 50th anniversary in 2011. Using an “any excuse for a celebration” approach, the publisher decided to cobble together its history as Marvel (dating back to 1961), Atlas (operating from 1951 to 1957), and Timely (operating from 1939 to 1950) and whether you love or hate the decision, it led to some beautiful cover art from Marko Djurjevic.

REVIEW: Avengers X-Sanction #3

With just two months to go until the launch of the much hyped Avengers vs. X-Men event, the penultimate issue of Jeph Loeb’s prequel series, Avengers X-Sanction, hit stores this week. Pitting Cable against “Rulk” with the future of Hope Summers and mutantkind on the line, issue #3 delivers another knock-down-drag-out fight between the time traveling X-Man and one of Earth’s mightiest heroes. This issue also sees several new players join the fray in the last few pages, setting up a potential Cable versus everyone finalé for next month.
