Philadelphia Comic Con: Zombie Beach Party

Posted by under *like, Comics, Miscellany |

Who knew there was a zombie sub-culture out there? Obviously, zombies are getting a lot of attention in films and comics, and the upcoming Walking Dead TV show on AMC is only going to add to that, but “live” zombie events like the Zombie Beach Party are completely new to everyone here.

Held at the Trocadero on Friday Night, the Beach Party was the official opening night event for Wizard World‘s 2010 Philadelphia Comic Con. The event was sponsored by locals PhillyZombieCrawl.com and featured zombie make-up stations and zombie-inspired music (in the vein of Bauhaus and and The Misfits) for all in attendance. According to the flyer, Philadelphia surf-punk band, The Slotcars, were scheduled to perform as well. I wish I had paid more attention to that, because I would have totally stayed to see them.

The best part of the night was that it was completely free for Comic Con attendees ($7/$10 otherwise). We spoke with one of the PhillyZombieCrawl.com organizers on the show floor and he was thrilled to be a big part of the weekend activities and indicated that the main event for the group is the annual Zombie Prom coming to The Trocadero on Sunday, September 26th. This could be a great time for anyone wanting to get in touch with their undead side.

Here are some more zombified images from Friday night. We’ve also added these to our Facebook page, so stop by and help identify the bodies. We’d be glad to forward photos to the next of kin, just contact us at zombies@mylatestdistraction.com.
