This year’s WrestleMania has come and gone and while it wasn’t the greatest of all time, it was certainly good. If nothing else, the show had possibly the best presentation and production I’ve ever seen in terms of the ring entrance and staging. It makes sense since that is something they can improve upon every year regardless of who’s walking down the aisle and just about everything else. It really did look impressive and was worthy of WrestleMania even if there were some details of the show that weren’t.

Yesterday saw the much anticipated (at least by me) release of THQ’s WWE All Stars video game. While I haven’t had a lot of time to spend on it so far, my initial reaction is very positive. We are deep into the WrestleMania time of year, so I know I might be tempted to give this higher marks than normal, but I think I can objectively say that this game is a lot of fun.

What sold me on WWE All Stars after a long time away from wrestling video games was the roster of characters and the angle of pitting current WWE Superstars against WWE Legends. The Legends roster is a lot of fun and includes some surprises like Jake “the Snake” Roberts. You also don’t see a lot of Randy “Macho Man” Savage (one of my all time favorites) associated with WWE these days, so his inclusion was critical to me along with the Hitman Bret Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

World Wrestling Entertainment’s The True Story of WrestleMania is available now through Netflix Instant (though the physical DVD is not yet shipping). It’s certainly something I wanted to see, but to be honest there’s no way I would have had a chance to anytime soon without this being available through Netflix. Only Volume 1 of the multi-disc set is currently streaming, but this is the documentary portion of the release while the other volumes are filled with matches. With a running time of just over 2 hours, the documentary features some incredible footage from the early ’80s and was a really nice way to revisit my youth, particularly with this year’s WrestleMania just two weeks away.

I know it’s silly, but I’m a long time pro wrestling fan. I’ve been losing interest lately, but last night’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view may have turned all that around. It was a fun show that really showcased the Rumble itself, which is usually the most exciting match of the year. There was a new twist on the Rumble match, a couple of very surprising old favorites returning, but it was the current roster and what they did in the ring that made the show great.

WWE Monday Night Raw returns to my hometown of Philadelphia tonight and in a surprise move brings the King of the Ring Tournament with it. Well, it was a surprise to me at least as I didn’t find out about it until watching last week’s show (to be fair, I’m also slightly surprised every time that I see that the Wachovia Center is now the Wells Fargo Center). This will be another 3-hour broadcast and the second this month in Pennsylvania after “WWE Old School Night” two weeks ago in Hershey.

While it was once an annual event, there hasn’t been a King of the Ring tournament since William Regal won in 2008. I seriously considered going tonight, but as you’ll see the bad outweighed the good.
