The Cavaliers blew it by winning

Posted by under *mixed, Sports |

I had a lot of fun following the Cleveland Cavaliers epic 26 game losing streak that ended Friday night (Thanks, Clippers) and I should have written more about it after the negative attention I gave the New Jersey Nets last season. The Cavs beat their own previous record of 24 straight losses spanning the 1981-82 and 1982-83 seasons and tied the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the longest (read as “worst”) losing streak of all time across the four major US sporting leagues.

The win on Friday denied us the epic confrontation this Sunday that would have seen the Cavs on an 0-27 skid against the visiting Washington Wizards who are winless on the road this season at 0-25. We’ll see if the Wizards can turn it around against the lowly Cavs or if another streak will start in Cleveland.

As bad as 0-26 is, it’s apparently not as bad as the New York Knicks have been lately as according to ESPN they’re 10-16 in their last ten games (see the stats above). Somehow they’ve lost 160% of their games in that stretch.

In other mathematical impossibilities, my beloved 76ers (25-28) managed a 77-71 victory over the NBA leading San Antonio Spurs (44-9) on Friday. It’s also worth noting that the 76ers are currently the number 7 playoff seed in the Eastern Conference with their losing record. Way to go, East.
