I’ve been meaning to write about this record for over a month, but I guess I couldn’t decide how I felt about it. There’s no doubt that when the songs are good, they’re great. From what I can gather, the band is made up of a bunch of nerds from North Jersey and is named after Shakespeare’s play. The record is full of Civil War themes including clips of recited speeches from the era crossed with seemingly anachronistic references to modern ideas like cars. I often describe the record as Civil War punk, but punk doesn’t really accurately describe the diversity of their sound. The lyrics tend to be appropriately angst-filled but that angst is often hidden behind fun sing-a-long chants like “The enemy is everywhere!” and “You will always be a loser!” The whole package is nothing if not interesting.

This was another week without an issue of X-Men: Second Coming, and while that’s disappointing all such feeling was replaced by shock when I saw Astonishing X-Men #34 was on the shelf yesterday. The latest issue of the often delayed series is the penultimate chapter of the current story arc and the title. The book is awesome in so many ways, but my feelings toward its content can’t be removed from the way its publication has been handled.

June has been far and away our most successful month here at MLD in terms of traffic. We hit a nice little milestone tonight, so thank you to everyone who has visited our site and read our posts.

This month has been immeasurably encouraging for all of us. We’ll have to celebrate this weekend… Maybe at Five Guys.

Last weekend, the Phillies”traveled” to Philadelphia for their weekend series “at” Toronto. Prior to the games, we knew the Phillies would bat in the top of the order and the game would follow American League rules using the designated hitter, even though they were playing in their home park. To further sell the idea that these were “away” games, the Phillies even wore their road uniforms, but the teams did not go so far as to switch dugouts nor did the concessions sell typical Canadian baseball fare. Although, that’s probably the same as American baseball fare at this point.
