An audience with The Sandwich King

After a weekend full of lines, autographs and meeting comic book legends at the Baltimore Comic Con, I got right back into the fray Tuesday night at a book signing with two fan favorites from the latest season of The Next Food Network Star. The Momma’s Boy Vic “Vegas” Moea and this year’s winner, “Sandwich King” Jeff Mauro, made a stop on their book tour at the Barnes & Noble in Cherry Hill, NJ, and since our own food expert Angelique was not able to attend, I went in her place doing my best to represent both MLD and Not Just Take Out.

Everyone here at MLD is a fan of something. Sometimes our interests are wholly our own, but often they intersect and suddenly there’s a lot to talk about. Brian and I have been watching professional wrestling for decades, and this Summer has seen a lot of new interest in what’s happening on World Wrestling Entertainment‘s television programming. As a fan of food trucks, I thought The Great Food Truck Race might be another offering from Food Network that was right up my alley. Unfortunately, it’s a reality show first and foremost. Angie is a big fan of food, and her interest in all things Food Network has become infectious. It started with a Chopped marathon that kept me up late one night long after she’d fall asleep after turning it on, and led to my watching this season of The Next Food Network Star with her every week. I’m even rooting for “The Sandwich King” Jeff Mauro because his motto of “every meal into a sandwich, every sandwich into a meal” agrees nicely with my life plan. Even though we skip the commercials of nearly everything we watch anymore, it was impossible not to catch promotional material for this new season of The Great Food Truck Race and it looks like it will nicely fill the void after tonight’s Food Network Star finale .

REVIEW: Torchwood – Miracle Day part 1

Posted by under *like, Television | Leave a Comment |

The debut of the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood on Starz had me a little thrown off by how produced it was relative to the BBC original. A bigger budget led to a lot of big action, but the essence of the show appears to be intact based on the series opener. A global mystery revolving around the end of death on Earth hits just the right notes and I’m genuinely excited for what comes next.

Spoilers for Torchwood: Miracle Day, The New World (episode one) and the histories of its principal characters may follow.
