Halo, be mine

Posted by under *like, Video Games | Leave a Comment |

For the past two months, I’ve been rediscovering my love of the Xbox’s Halo franchise and it would be wrong not to talk about it here. I’ve been on board since Halo: Combat Evolved shipped as a launch title for the original Xbox console and stayed with it through the two sequels that followed (including upgrading to an Xbox360 when Halo 3 shipped in 2007). After that, my interest fell off until the release of Halo: Reach last September. It took a while to set in, but I’ve become consumed.

All things TRON

Posted by under *like, Comics, Movies, Music, Video Games | Leave a Comment |

Throughout December I was inundated with all manner of media related to Disney’s TRON: Legacy, the sequel to the 1982 classic TRON. This is ok, I’m a fan, but there was so much TRON in my life all month it would be wrong not to mention it here. Seeing the movie was just the tip of the iceberg. There’s also music, comic books and video games of all kinds, which is appropriate since the original TRON Arcade game may have actually been more popular than the first movie.

New York Comic Con 2010

This year’s New York Comic Con came and went this weekend (10/8/10-10/10/10), and this is a tough one to write up. In a word, it was overwhelming. I want to say I had a good time, but I don’t know that I came away from it with the experience that I was looking for. Thankfully, that wasn’t true for everyone here at MLD, and I did come back with a lot to write about.

The Show

Saturday was impossibly crowded. Reports indicate that 97,000 people attended the show throughout the weekend and it felt like every one of them was in the same aisle (Evan Dorkin sums it up well here). Attendees reported waiting up to an hour to get into the building and even to get into some of the panels. Both Saturday and Sunday were reported as “sold out,” but I’m not sure that point reflects a reasonable number for that space. Combining the show with the Anime Festival may have just been too much.

REVIEW: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Posted by under *like, Comics, Movies, Video Games | Join The Discussion |

In a freak occurrence, Pete and I got to see Scott Pilgrim vs The World last week. Go sneak previews! Not only did we think we wouldn’t have any chance of getting into the 7PM (assumed time) screening, we had reserved seating for the 7:30PM (actual time) screening. It pays to know the right people! Thank you, Steve D!

The best part for me about going to screenings, besides the cost, is the lack of previews. We hung out in the theater for a bit, the lights dimmed, and we were immediately in love with the movie. Tiny spoiler here, but we’ll try to not ruin much else. Universal logo on the screen. Pixelated. 8-bit MIDI music. Awesome. We both agree on that point, and here’s what else we have to say.

TRON comes to the iPhone

Posted by under *like, Movies, Video Games | Leave a Comment |

Imagine my surprise and delight when an advertisement in the iPhone’s Words game took me to this new TRON app! Released earlier this week, it features links to trailers for TRON: Legacy and the TRON: Evolution video game, as well as information on the ComiTRON panel at the San Diego Comic Con this week. The main attraction is a TRON Tanks game that has 15 levels and has been a lot of fun in the time I’ve spent playing it. The best part is it’s all free.

I’m a big fan of the original movie and I’m really looking forward to the sequel coming this December. Check this out if you’re already a fan or just want to learn more about the world of TRON.
