More Marvel 70th Anniversary images

Posted by under *mixed, Comics |

Another batch of great images for Marvel’s 70th Anniversary variant covers have been released over the past few months and I thought it was worth posting an update.  While these covers are really cool, I’ve come to discover that they are incredibly difficult to find since my last post.  At least this seems to be true in Philadelphia as I’ve come across only one shop that regularly has them in stock, Brave New Worlds on 2nd Street.  This is by no means the fault of local shop owners, that blame falls to Marvel for using their ridiculous order minimum system to allocate these books.

i’m nonplussed over the variant covers..though the cap one is pretty cool, i guess.

..and at least it’s not ZOMBIE versions of the characters. glad that trend died out!

Why do we need 70th anniversary covers of characters that have been around only 30 or 40 years?

JD, I like them but I fully realize they’re not for everyone (which is also true for the very idea of variant covers). I completely agree that the zombie stuff got out of control.

Kevin, are you suggesting they should only include characters that were first published in 1939? That’s just silly. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to celebrate characters from throughout their publishing history. Also, these covers include the original Human Torch, Captain America, and Namor, all of whom were first published 70 years ago.

Yeah. I think it’s very strange to tie Iron Fist to Namor’s legacy when there were decades that Marvel basically didn’t exist.
