REVIEW: Flashpoint #2

Posted by under *like, Comics | Leave a Comment |

In the past month, Flashpoint has suddenly become the most important series in the DC Universe with the announcement that every DC Comics title will relaunch after Flashpoint #5. That book was originally scheduled to be DC’s only monthly issue hitting store on August 31st, with little to no information available about what was happening to the rest of their publishing line. We’ve now seen a number of announcements about the “new” DC Universe that will follow with a host of #1 issues in September, but before all that there’s Flashpoint #2.

Spoilers for Flashpoint, the DC Universe and all of creation may follow.

REVIEW: Marvel’s Fear Itself #3

Posted by under *mixed, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Marvel’s Summer blockbuster, Fear Itself from writer Matt Fraction and artist Stuart Immonen, continued last week with issue #3. It’s an improvement for the series over issue #2, but there still seems to be something missing compared to the debut. It’s continues to be an interesting attempt to combine elements of the worlds of two of Marvel’s marquee heroes, but as we move through the Summer movie release schedule from May’s Thor to July’s Captain America the focus is shifting accordingly.

Spoilers for the issue and series will follow.

Nintendo Announces Wii U

I’m by no means a gamer. I would like to be more of one, but I consistently find that video games left me behind at least a decade ago (maybe two). I don’t have the time or desire to spend hours learning a game before I really get to enjoy it. I want to be able to jump right in and know how to play immediately and I don’t find too many fulfilling games that work like that.

You can imagine my excitement then when the original Wii came out because that seemed designed specifically for me and featured cool high tech motion controls. Awesome. I was a VERY early adopter of this system and LOVED Wii Sports. Unfortunately, I still don’t think Nintendo has produced a game that has topped that one in terms of the motion controls. So for me at least, the system was fun when you had friends over, but it basically never lived up to its potential.

Wake up, John! Halo 4 announced at E3

Posted by under *like, Video Games | Leave a Comment |

Microsoft presented a long list of things to look forward to at their E3 keynote yesterday, but nothing stood out more to me than the announcement of Halo 4. I’m a big fan of the Halo franchise, and it’s great to hear that 343 Studios will not only be producing another installment of the series featuring the Master Chief and Cortana but a new trilogy.  The exciting teaser (see below, I’ve watched it at least a dozen times already) suggests we’re about to learn a lot more about the ancient Forerunners of the Halo universe and many of the hidden datapads in Halo: Reach indicated this might be a new direction for the series.

REVIEW: Doctor Who – The Almost People

Posted by under *mixed, Television | Leave a Comment |

The follow up to The Rebel Flesh was very welcome after the Memorial Weekend break, but unfortunately this episode is all about the shocking final minutes. After what was a strong first part, the wrap to the “Flesh” storyline in The Almost People is a bit disappointing despite it’s fantastic title. The twist at the end is almost enough to overcome it, but Saturday’s A Good Man Goes to War can’t get here soon enough.
