Are you ready for some baseball?

Posted by under *mixed, Sports | Leave a Comment |

The Phillies begin an epic stretch of 33 games in 31 days to close out the 2011 season tonight in Cincinnati. That means no days off, 20 road games including three series against the NL Central, two day/night doubleheaders against the Marlins and Nationals respectively, and six more head to head games (the exact number of games by which they lead the NL East) with the second place Braves during that time. Admittedly, I missed baseball over the weekend, but this seems excessive.

X-Men: Regenesis begins this November

For the past two weeks, Marvel Comics has been releasing a set of their trademark silhouetted teaser images, this time focusing on the X-Men line. With the promise of big changes to the X-Men’s status quo following the current Schism series by Jason Aaron, these teasers suggest a very different landscape for Marvel’s mutants beyond Cyclops simply being at odds with Wolverine. It appears that Regenesis will be a line wide revamp similar in nature to 2004’s X-Men: ReLoad and 2000’s X-Men: Revolution/Counter-X.

The initial promotional image for November’s X-Men: Regenesis focused on the division between characters that would be part of the new Wolverine and the X-Men title and the relaunching Uncanny X-Men. As these latest teasers have rolled out, we now see that no less than eight ongoing X-titles will be part of Regenesis.

The Quotable Doctor Who

Doctor Who has always had a special place in my world and I’ve had a great time talking about here on MLD. When I was reviewing and speculating on the full run of episodes from Season Five last year, I made it a point to add quotes from the show to the tags for the articles. They probably escaped most readers notice (and it isn’t really the most conventional use of the tags feature), but including them has actually brought a lot of readers to the site. It’s even come to the attention of some that I’ve neglected to include them when reviewing Season Six.

Never one to disappoint, I had to rectify this situation.

An audience with The Sandwich King

After a weekend full of lines, autographs and meeting comic book legends at the Baltimore Comic Con, I got right back into the fray Tuesday night at a book signing with two fan favorites from the latest season of The Next Food Network Star. The Momma’s Boy Vic “Vegas” Moea and this year’s winner, “Sandwich King” Jeff Mauro, made a stop on their book tour at the Barnes & Noble in Cherry Hill, NJ, and since our own food expert Angelique was not able to attend, I went in her place doing my best to represent both MLD and Not Just Take Out.

Re-Enter, the Man Called Havok!

Posted by under *like, Comics | Join The Discussion |

Alex Summers, also known as Havok, is arguably my favorite character from Marvel’s X-Men comic books. Unfortunately, his publication history is defined by long stretches of time off panel dating back to his earliest appearances. The most recent of these absences finally concludes today in the pages of X-Men: Legacy #254, the first chapter of a story called “Five Miles South of the Universe.” In commemoration of his return, we’ve even created a sub-site dedicated to Havok here at MLD as a resource for fellow fans.
