As you probably DON’T know. Lady Gaga is performing on the Today show, today. Actually right now. It’s a record turn out for the Today Show Toyota Concert Series. Nearly 20,000 people at their last count. People slept on the street for this event. Of course, with my sleepless night, I was up in time, so I have coverage.   Read more of this article »

REVIEW: Titus Andronicus’ The Monitor

I’ve been meaning to write about this record for over a month, but I guess I couldn’t decide how I felt about it. There’s no doubt that when the songs are good, they’re great. From what I can gather, the band is made up of a bunch of nerds from North Jersey and is named after Shakespeare’s play. The record is full of Civil War themes including clips of recited speeches from the era crossed with seemingly anachronistic references to modern ideas like cars. I often describe the record as Civil War punk, but punk doesn’t really accurately describe the diversity of their sound. The lyrics tend to be appropriately angst-filled but that angst is often hidden behind fun sing-a-long chants like “The enemy is everywhere!” and “You will always be a loser!” The whole package is nothing if not interesting.

Why can’t punks and ballerinas just get along?

It must be something about the Lehigh Valley. I ended up in the same shopping center where I first heard this story over a month ago and finally got to find out how it ends as soon as I walked into a store. It turns out she’s with the skater boy and she’ll be backstage after the show. She’ll also be in the studio singing the song he wrote about the girl he used to know. Which is strange because she’s actually singing a song she wrote about the boy she used to know. Sometimes she sends me spam comments.

Also, I’ll never understand the interpersonal dynamics of women like those I witnessed where I heard this song today. I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed this, but women often don’t like each other for seemingly no reason.

Philadelphia Kick-Off to Summer

I’m sure there is plenty that happens in Philadelphia every single weekend.  So after you read this, please don’t feel the need to tell me about all those other busy, busy Philly weekends.  I don’t really care about those.  I am generally a homebody.  I don’t need to go out to every event.  As I rode the train down to the city today, I thought about how hot it was outside.  And how this first weekend in June has seemed to be impossibly hot every year since we moved into the city.  I was wondering why there were at least 30 other people getting on the 1:15 train with me on a Friday afternoon.  Does no one work anymore? My first Glee

Posted by under *dislike, Music, Television | Join The Discussion |

There was a ton of hype around Glee when it first started.  I think I wanted to watch it in the beginning.  Maybe we had recordings that conflicted.  Either way, I didn’t.  I think maybe we tried to watch once, but didn’t make it through the episode.  It’s been officially picked up for a 3rd season by Fox, and I just watched my first full episode.

My viewing was inspired by the inclusion of Lady Gaga.  Well, the inclusion of her music.  Gossip Girl had THE Lady Gaga.  Just saying, Glee, just saying….  So I watched.  A whole episode.  Not impressed.  The singing was not believable.  Over produced?  Under-produced?  I’m not sure which one.  But it seemed like a really bad music video to me where the music just doesn’t match the mouth quite right.  I’m sure the story of the characters pulls plenty of people in, and there was enough in one random episode that I sort of got the gist of things, but this will probably be my only episode.

What can I say?  Acapella groups and 12 year old’s on YouTube are more entertaining/impressive for Lady Gaga covers than this was.
