REVIEW: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

In a freak occurrence, Pete and I got to see Scott Pilgrim vs The World last week. Go sneak previews! Not only did we think we wouldn’t have any chance of getting into the 7PM (assumed time) screening, we had reserved seating for the 7:30PM (actual time) screening. It pays to know the right people! Thank you, Steve D!

The best part for me about going to screenings, besides the cost, is the lack of previews. We hung out in the theater for a bit, the lights dimmed, and we were immediately in love with the movie. Tiny spoiler here, but we’ll try to not ruin much else. Universal logo on the screen. Pixelated. 8-bit MIDI music. Awesome. We both agree on that point, and here’s what else we have to say.

Inception Explained South Park Style

In high school, I always got the Cliffs Notes.  Well, not always…sometimes there was already a movie version, and if so, I was all over that.  If you’re like me, and you have a hard time sitting still to read anything longer than a single paragraph and would rather be captivated by mind-numbing pictures, then boy do I have a treat for you.  Previously we conducted an in-depth review of Inception, but if you’re still confused and want the cinematic explanation, then click on my friend…click on. Panorama X

Of all the big announcements coming out of this year’s San Diego Comic Con, it was a teaser image for the coming line of X-Men titles that grabbed most of my attention. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since I’m a big fan, but the image got me to thinking about the long history of ultra-wide X-Men images I seem to go crazy for. What is it about these things that I love so much?

San Diego Comic Con 2010 via satellite

Posted by under *like, Comics, Technology | Leave a Comment |

The Super Bowl of comic book shows is going down in San Diego this weekend and we’re missing it. Being on the East Coast, we here at MLD normally stick to local events. Luckily there are a bunch of ways to keep tabs on all of the news and announcements coming out of this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

Comic Book Resources has excellent coverage including live updates from panels and presentations. Newsarama is another great option for staying informed and they’ve provided what has been the highlight for me so far from yesterday’s X-Men panel:

The show has already brought us some other fun stuff including new information on TRON: Legacy, True Blood, and Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. Saturday’s panels include a lot of comic book/movie topics like Scott Pilgrim, Green Lantern and Marvel’s upcoming Avengers film. It all begins today at 1PM EDT.
