Top Chef – Washington, DC… sucks.

Posted by under *dislike, Television | Leave a Comment |

This is not a play-by-play of the current season of Top Chef. I could give you one, but it would be a lot of “you suck” and “I miss Jennifer Carroll” quotes. I think it is safe to say that this season of Top Chef is by far its worst.  Not only do I know it, but Bravo knows it.

Season 6 in Las Vegas could not be topped.  There were four chefs — Mike Voltaggio, Brian Voltaggio, Jennifer Carroll, and Kevin Gillesppie — that made meals that looked so good and, in some cases, used complicated techniques never seen on the show. All four of those chefs would win this season without question. Eli, who was fifth, would likely be the favorite, if not top 3.  The season has little talent and even fewer interesting chefs.

Netflix versus Redbox…FIGHT!

Posted by under *like, Miscellany, Movies | Join The Discussion |

Courtesy of RentersInsurance.orgRecently going across digg.com, I saw an article featuring an infographic from RentersInsurance.org squaring off Netflix and Redbox.  Now I’m sure I don’t have to highlight who Netflix is, although some people may not know about Redbox.  This company provides Kiosks at many retail locations (grocery stores, convenience stores, etc) where you can rent DVDs for $1 per day.  Pretty cheap, but how does this stack up to the Netflix price of $8.99 per month for unlimited rentals?

REVIEW: The Expendables

Posted by under *mixed, Movies | Join The Discussion |

The Expendables is exactly what you would imagine it to be if you were to really take a minute to think about it and let those initial nice feelings rooted in nostalgia pass. It’s a 80’s action movie revival written and directed by Sylvester Stallone and starring Stallone, Dolph Lundgren and Mickey Rourke. The movie is overloaded with ultraviolence and shaky camera shots because that’s what Stallone thinks is relevant in 2010. That’s not to say it’s not a fun movie. It is. It has a few fun action scenes and its share of laughs. It’s just not the magic action movie that the Internet hype wants you to believe it is.

REVIEW: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

In a freak occurrence, Pete and I got to see Scott Pilgrim vs The World last week. Go sneak previews! Not only did we think we wouldn’t have any chance of getting into the 7PM (assumed time) screening, we had reserved seating for the 7:30PM (actual time) screening. It pays to know the right people! Thank you, Steve D!

The best part for me about going to screenings, besides the cost, is the lack of previews. We hung out in the theater for a bit, the lights dimmed, and we were immediately in love with the movie. Tiny spoiler here, but we’ll try to not ruin much else. Universal logo on the screen. Pixelated. 8-bit MIDI music. Awesome. We both agree on that point, and here’s what else we have to say.

REVIEW: Brightest Day #7

Posted by under *mixed, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Everyone gets a mystery this issue as things really start to happen in Brightest Day #7. All of the White Lantern’s resurrected characters from Blackest Night make an appearance and some of their individual stories start to connect. At the same time, many new stories are seeded throughout along with a series of Fall TV ads.

PTB: This issue is basically that teaser image we discussed last time expanded to 22 pages. I’m not sure if I like it.

KevinMLD: I thinks it’s about time something happened in this title. This could have been issue 1 or at least issue 3. It didn’t need six issues of set up.
