I generally try to avoid spoilers in my reviews if I can help it, but discussing Nick Spencer’s Infinite Vacation #1 without revealing it’s high concept would be pointless. In the world of Infinite Vacation, man has figured out that there are infinite alternate universes out there and the company Infinite Vacation offers people the opportunity to travel between them. Basically, People have started vacationing in alternate universes as if they were time shares in Florida. In addition to being able to travel between universes, the company offers the option to interact with alternate versions of yourself from those worlds, which is a cool twist on your typical alternate reality story.

In another announcement to along with The Death of Captain America and Spider-Man’s public unmasking during Civil War, Marvel Comics has taken the approach of revealing a major story point to the public before fans can even read the source material. It’s Tuesday, comic books normally ship on Wednesday but Marvel even went so far as to permit retailers to sell copies of Fantastic Four #587 a day earlier in anticipation of today’s press release. Unfortunately, the press release came at 7:32AM this morning and I don’t know of many comic book stores that are open at that hour.

Marvel’s latest X-Men event, Age of X, begins this week and I really couldn’t be more excited about it. I’ve had a lot to say about it here on MLD, and all of it can be accessed, along with reviews and reactions to each installment going forward, at our Age of X hub. Despite all the hype surrounding this crossover, it’s still very mysterious (although that’s by design). Before we get into the story itself this Wednesday, it’s a good time to recap what we know going in.

Let me start off by saying that I’ve always thought Green Lantern was a terrible character. When I was a kid I totally would have taken Aquaman and his ability to talk to his fish friends over Green Lantern’s stupid magic ring and glowing fists. It’s terrible, and Hal Jordan’s lack of a personality never helped things. So if you were to tell me there would come a day that I’d be reading three monthly Green Lantern titles and really enjoying them, I’d have thought you were crazy. It’s a HUGE tribute to Geoff Johns’ writing ability that Green Lantern was ever even an exciting title; let alone soaring at the heights it hit during the Sinestro Corps War and the lead up to Blackest Night. Blackest Night didn’t really work for me overall. The Black Lanterns were mostly annoying rather than horrifying. The tie-ins all told the exact same story, but the series still had some really nice moments such as Lex Luthor becoming an Orange Lantern, the Scarecrow joining the Sinestro Corps, and Sinestro himself being the first to wield the white ring. Which leads us to today and the question we are now faced with: What is the current state of the Green Lanterns?

DC Comics’ Brightest Day returned with a strong issue two weeks ago and we can only hope that it’s a sign of things to come for the series. In many ways the book returned to the way it began by shifting the focus around the major players that were resurrected during Blackest Night, namely Deadman, Firestorm, Hawkman and Hawkgirl. After what we felt was a marked decline, things are looking up.

PTB: It Feels like it’s been a while since we did one of these. Did the book ship late or is that us?
