Late Renoir / Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival Double Shot

So dig it, MLD: you know I like theater. It’s in my “likes” category, but due to my performance schedule with ComedySportz Philly, I don’t get out to see as much live theater as I oughta. After my less-than-stellar culinary experience Friday night, my wife reminded me that we were seeing the Late Renoir exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Good deal, but what’s more, we’d also bought tickets to Irish playwright John Millington Synge’s most famous play “The Playboy of the Western World“, playing up in Center Valley, PA, at DeSales University as part of this year’s Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. SNL strong first half

Screen shot 2009-12-12 at 8.47.30 PMI’ve been a Saturday Night Live fan for a long time and have stuck with it even through some very weak seasons.  The upside is that there are years when everything seems to come together nicely and makes for some great shows.  I think this might be one of those years.

The hosts so far have been pretty average with Taylor Swift being the only real stand-out.  This hasn’t stopped any of the shows from being a lot of fun since the cast really shines this year.  Some great recurring skits new to this season include What Up With That? and ESPN Classic broadcasts.  Combining these with spoofs of Tiger Woods and Fox News’ Fall election coverage have made for some fun shows.  The Digital Short offerings have also been solid with On the GroundTwo Worlds CollideShy Ronnie, and A Ladies Guide to Throwing a Party to name a few.  Lady GaGa was also surprisingly fun as a musical guest.

New featured cast members Nasim Pedrad and Jenny Slate have been great additions.  It’s just a shame that these two were hired as replacements for Michaela Watkins and Casey Wilson who I enjoyed last season.

Saturday Night Live airs Saturday’s at 11:30PM on NBC.  Tonight’s host is someone called Taylor Lautner who’s in some vampire movie and the musical guest is Bon Jovi who will likely get involved in other segments of the show.  An amazing number of clips from past shows are also available from the show’s official site.

Don’t judge my proposition before you hear what I have to say

We saw The Proposal tonight.  Luckily I hadn’t seen too many previews for it, since after, I was told that all the funny parts happen in the previews… Anyway….

If our readers can claim Shia Labeouf was the only good thing about Indiana Jones 4…. then I can safely say that Betty White and Oscar from The Office stole the show in this movie.  Ryan Reynolds presence doesn’t hurt it one bit… But Betty White seeming like she may not be faking the crazy old lady thing, and Oscar…well – that you have to see for yourself.  They were hilarious.

Overall, I was pretty happy with seeing this.  For a romantic comedy, it had a lot of comedy.  Yes, it had a lot of cliches, but the funny was funny.  There were a lot of laugh out loud moments.  Yeah – that’s right – it made me LOL.  Oh – and a lot of it being in Alaska was nice too.  Alaska is pretty  🙂

REVIEW: The Hangover

Posted by under *like, Movies | Join The Discussion |

I liked it a lot better when it was called Dude, Where’s My Car?

Actually that’s not really true, but for me I couldn’t get that thought out of my head while watching the Hangover, except it lacks Dude’s weird Sci-Fi twist. A lot of the jokes recall other comedies beyond Dude including the Chris Farley classic Tommy Boy but it is still a funny movie with a fun cast. I think it’s worth seeing if you have a high tolerance for male nudity.

It’s also weird seeing Heather Graham in a movie in a theater. It feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve done that…
