Women of Marvel Frame Variants

Posted by under *mixed, Comics | Leave a Comment |

Last August, Marvel celebrated its 70th Anniversary by combining their publication history as Timely, Atlas and Marvel Comics which dates back to 1939. As part of the celebration, the publisher returned to a fondly remembered variant cover gimmick they used during their 25th Anniversary (almost 25 years ago): every book with a matching cover featuring a character from the title framed by a collection of their fellow Marvel creations. While I have my own feelings on how these new variations on the theme match up, I have to admit I really like the idea. With 2010 being a celebration of the Women of Marvel, the frame covers have returned this month.

Weeds Season Premiere

Posted by under *like, Television | Leave a Comment |

Recently I had a lot of free time on my hands. You would think unemployment would have meant a lot of posts from me, but you would have been very wrong. Instead of writing, I did a lot of watching. I found the full value in my Netflix account. I used much of my time to discover shows I hadn’t had a chance to watch yet.

In a matter of days, I watched the first five seasons of Showtime’s Weeds. I told Pete I would write up each season, but that didn’t happen. I’m not one to write about TV really. REVIEW: RED starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malcovich and Weeds

Posted by under *mixed, Comics, Movies | Leave a Comment |

Last week we ran a preview of the fall movie RED starring Bruce Willis. If you had actually read that primer, you may have wondered, “Why are you writing a primer for a movie that doesn’t come out for over two months?” Well as it turns out, the real question is “Why is Summit screening the film two months early?” Because on Friday I got to be part of “one of the first audiences in the country” to see RED.

The movie stars Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Helen Mirren as retired government assassins. The chick from Weeds plays a potential love interest for Willis and the dude from Nip/Tuck plays the Vice President of the United States.

A glimpse into SEPTA’s future

Posted by under *ambivalent, Miscellany | Leave a Comment |

I know SEPTA gets a lot of grief for running behind schedule, but this is ridiculous. I was almost 70 years late for work this morning.

Also, what you can’t see in the photo is that it was taken at 11:15PM. In the future, that time of day is broad daylight. I can only assume this is the result of Daylight Savings Time run amok, or humanity’s last ditch effort to stave off the vampire apocalypse by throwing off their sleep schedule.

REVIEW: Doctor Who – The Pandorica Opens

Posted by under *like, Television | Join The Discussion |

Before the opening credits rolled, it became clear that everything that’s happened this season has been for a reason and nothing was left out. It’s a testament to Steven Moffat’s talents that he’s taken his new creations and made them such a compelling part of the series, while at the same time acknowledging the show’s history. With all the changes that came this season (a new Doctor, new companions and a new head writer) it’s obvious the show is in good hands.

Spoilers next.
